Painter Luis Cervantes posted a TikTok video over the weekend, showing a former UCSB lecturer making racist remarks towards him.Β  The viral video spread through social media, sparking a protest on Sunday night.Β  Β  Today, Santa Barbara police detectives have recommended criminal charges against Jeanne Umana, including: trespassing, battery on a person and committing a hate crime. Dozens of protestors rallied outside Umana’s apartment Sunday night in Santa Barbara, walking between Garden Street and the Santa Barbara Police Department headquarters. SBPD said they observed the protest and saw illegal fireworks set off.Β  Many residents complained about the protest in a City Council meeting on Tuesday evening.
