Basking shark in glass in California! 🦈🤯🔥| Basking shark are extremely rare to find in Southern California, but are possible during certain months! This animal is one of the most elusive & exotic in SoCal - and many of my most dedicated whale watching & offshore friends are eager to find one!
We have not seen any so far this KW quest season w/ @pacificoffshore in the Channel Islands YET! Maybe this weekends weather window will bless us with us with one of these unicorns late in their season?!

Sharks circle out of curiosity.
They use distance and body language to figure out if you’re food, a threat, or just part of the scenery.
In most real encounters, once a shark realizes you’re not prey, it moves on.
Humans are different.
When a person “circles,” it’s rarely curiosity.
It’s social, emotional, or even predatory intent.
The phrase isn’t biological: it’s psychological.
People can study you, disguise motives, manipulate, or harm with intention.
The shark shows you what it is.
The human often doesn’t.
That’s why I feel safer in the water. Leave me with the sharks, please 🙋♀️

Today we came across a dead cow floating out to sea. It didn’t take long for two massive tiger sharks to come in to feed. Tigers are always looking for fast food and this pregnant momma was hungry!
