Perrotin Store New York is thrilled to showcase Emily Mae Smith’s new monumental print, ‘Poetry (Toy in Blood)’ 🩸 Created in collaboration with @brandxeditions and based on her painting of the same name, Smith deploys her signature wily broom character as a stand-in for herself. “In ‘Poetry (Toy in Blood)’, the broom sits hunched over in a field of over-sized predatory blue irises, the figure set heroically against a massively oversized harvest moon, hands dripping with luminous, deliciously candy-like syrup blood. […] The broom is featureless, with simply a wooden handle for a face, but the languid poses in which Smith positions her figures indicate indifference, calm, or listlessness in the face of tragedy.” — William Corwin for the @brooklynrail The print has entered into the permanent collection of the @philamuseum and will be on view in an exhibition at the museum later this year. And that’s actually one of the main reasons I don’t sell my paintings right away. I like to live with them for a while first. See them every day, get used to having them around… before eventually letting them go. My prints make that part a little easier. Even when an original finds a new home, I can still keep a small piece of it with me. And with Upside Down, I’m especially prepared 😅

Jonas Wood (@jonasbrwood) is taking over Gagosian’s gallery and shop in London’s Burlington Arcade from Monday, October 7, with a presentation of prints, as well as a selection of artist-designed hats, books, and posters! Ahead of the opening, we’re sharing this time-lapse video capturing the installation of a tennis-ball patterned wallpaper designed by the artist on the ground floor. Three prints of flowers—including “White Flower with Grid,” a new sixteen-color screen print published by Counter Editions (@countereditions)—will be installed on this wallpaper. Open concurrently with the artist’s solo exhibition of paintings at the Grosvenor Hill gallery, the presentation at Burlington Arcade (@burlingtonarcade) also includes a suite of five woodcuts of bonsai and a new etching of a domestic interior, installed in the upstairs gallery on Wood’s botanical-print wallpaper.
