Did you know Seattle is a designated UNESCO City of Literature? With a vibrant literary scene, it’s easy to see why. One of the city’s most iconic literary landmarks is the Seattle Central Library. Here are 10 fun facts about this branch:   This place is an architectural marvel of our city. It has 11 floors and is 362,987 sqft.    It opened on May 23, 2004 to global acclaim.    It holds over 1.5M books.   The first book borrowed was a brand new copy of Mark Twain’s “The Innocents Abroad” by a lumber company vice president.   There are 13 shades of red on the Red Floor.   Floors 6-9 are known as the Books Spiral, displaying the entire nonfiction collection in a continuous, wheelchair-accessible run,. The towering Level 3 living room reaches 50 feet in height, with a distinct diamond-shaped exterior of glass and steel.    There is enough glass in the library to cover the I-90 bridge 25 times.   The Seattle Public Library was established as an official city department in 1890, but its roots in the city date back as far as 1868, just 17 years after the Denny Party settled here in 1851.   The first ever library location was a reading room in Pioneer Square. Now there are 27 locations.   Be honest, have you ever visited the Seattle Central Library? If not, we recommend you do so soon.    #findmeinseattle #visitseattle #seattlelibrary @visitseattle @seattlepubliclibrary
