Anthony James Gallagher thought he would get away from being arrested for shoplifting if he pretended to be his sibling.   However, after denying his identity multiple times, officers persisted until the truth finally came out.   Gallagher, 40, targeted a shop three times in half an hour and then our officers located him a short time later in a pub.   He was later charged with 24 offences, including 12 thefts, 10 breaches of his Community Behaviour Order, threat to criminal damage and a public order offence.   Shoplifting has a negative impact across communities. Retailers and businesses suffer from the knock-on effect of constantly losing stock. We recognise the important role that policing plays in tackling offenders and supporting retailers.

Gallagher will now spend time behind bars for his actions. He was sentenced to two years and seven months and his CBO was also extended to seven years.
