The opposite of “let me know if you need anything” is acts of service.
Who showed up for you with acts of service? Or how did you show up? Let’s get some ideas going for the next time you or someone in your community needs more than “let me know if I can help help.”
I was so fortunate to receive so much love last year and it got me thinking about the ways we show up for people. My list is lengthy but I’ll start with these:
- My sister arrived and did all my laundry including changing my sheets and making my bed
- My brothers and their families sent meals
- My parents brought games and waited on me hand and foot
- My girlfriends made sure I was never without flowers
- Here’s a good one - my colleague sent home made cookies three weeks after my surgery when the deliveries and care packages had lessened.

The world didn’t stop.
It didnt soften or ask if I was ready.
It just keeps moving…
while you’re standing there trying to understand how everything changed.
Grief is a strange place to live.
You’re heartbroken… but still expected to show up, smile, work, be strong.
So I do the only thing I know how to do.
I take care of his daughter.
I move my body.
I build something meaningful.
I keep going… not because it’s easy, but because it matters.
Some days that’s strength.
Some days that’s survival.
But either way… I’m still here.
