2Pac's last MTV interview! Imagine being completely stoned… and suddenly told you’re about to interview Tupac live on MTV. That’s exactly what happened to Simon Rex in 1996. After finishing work at an MTV event, Rex thought the night was winding down. Instead, his boss suggested relaxing with a little “Satan’s cilantro.” Moments later, Tupac unexpectedly arrived, and producers immediately pushed Rex to interview him on the spot. The problem? Rex told them he was way too high. Their response: “Don’t worry… so is he.” Before he could process it, cameras were rolling and the red light was on. The interview was live television, leaving Rex awkwardly staring at the floor while Tupac largely carried the conversation. During the moment, Tupac addressed the growing East Coast vs. West Coast rap feud, explaining that the media was blowing the conflict out of proportion. According to Pac, it was really just an issue between a couple of rappers that everyone else kept amplifying. Instead of feeding the drama, Tupac emphasized unity—shouting out artists like Buckshot, Smif-N-Wessun, Greg Nice, and the Boot Camp Clik, while pushing the idea of squashing beef and getting back to making music and money. Looking back, Rex says the interview is still painful for him to watch—but it’s also a wild snapshot of 1990s hip-hop history and MTV’s unpredictable live TV era. Watch the moment and decide for yourself: awkward disaster or iconic 90s TV? #tupac #mtv #90shiphop #simonrex #hiphophistory
