Of us 🪶 For us 🛹 From us ✊🏾 Today we want to honor the initiative our community warriors took to make this park a reality. The Diné Skate Garden Project launched with a meeting we had in 2019 with the local chapter officials on Navajo Nation, as a solution to create community space for Diné youth. The last three years required the dedication and support of the entire native community to make this happen. The kids, parents, teachers, school officials, skaters, tribal leaders, artists, musicians, chefs, volunteers…..all from our native community that believed in this initiative aimed at creating a safe and accessible skateboarding facility for the youth of the Navajo Nation. We are grateful to everyone that donated, sponsored, partnered, with this Diné led project, as you fueled this project of love 🫶🏾 with your support! What an honor it was to host this event with @theskateparkproject @tonyhawk @cellular_one last week, and to have the leader of Navajo Nation @buuvannygren speak so powerfully about how skateboarding impacted his life and how it can be a powerful tool for our kids! Ahéhee’ Dr. Buu Nygren, you inspire us all! Join us in reaching our goal to distribute skateboards and helmets to every kid in a 25 mile radius of this park by the summer! Text GOSKATE to 707070 to donate! This film was produced by Diné filmmaker @wadeadakai whose heart ❤️ shines as he tells our stories. Cover image by Diné photographer @shaun_marcus 🚵🏾‍♀️ who is leading the way for kids to experience the joy of cycling. #skateinbeauty #dinéskategardenproject

Skate Nation is a Swedish initiative that helps integrate newly arrived youth through skateboarding. By offering free boards, coaching, and a welcoming community, they turn skating into a universal language, breaking barriers of background and language. In our talk, we explored how urban designers can create inclusive skateparks that invite everyone to participate and feel safe. We also discussed Skate Nation’s collaboration with Nobel Week Lights in Tensta, where light, art, and skate culture met, transforming public space into a place for movement, connection, and creativity. #placemaking #urbanplanning #architecture #design #urbandeisgn #urbanisticapodcast #podcast #mustafasherif #cities #citiesforpeople #landscapearchitecture #arkitektur #stadsplanering #art #music #podcast
