Viral skincare trends are everywhere at the moment, so I thought I’d break down the 3 I get asked about most…
And just to be clear, they’re not all bad ideas and can work in certain situations. But in everyday life, for most of us, they’re often unnecessary 🤦🏻♀️
🐌 𝗦𝗹𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴
This is where you apply a thick layer of something like Vaseline as the final step of your routine, to seal moisture into your skin overnight. But if you’re already using a good serum and moisturiser, your skin should already have all the hydration it needs. And personally, the thought of peeling my Vaseline-y face off the pillow gives me the ick 🙈😂
🚲 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴
Skin cycling is a routine where you rotate your products across several nights. It’s usually strong acids one night, strong retinol the next, then a recovery night before repeating the cycle. It can work in theory, but it’s quite complicated to keep track of, which is why I use The 5 Minute Kit instead. It follows a micro-dosing philosophy which means using gentle acids and retinols every night, so your skin gets all the goodness consistently and you never need to change your routine 😍
🧖🏻♀️ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗱
This is where people go to bed layered in things like sheet masks, eye patches and mouth tape, then supposedly ‘shed’ it all in the morning and wake up like Sleeping Beauty. But with a good routine, that is completely unnecessary. In my opinion, prioritising comfortable, uninterrupted sleep will always do far more for your skin in the long run.
So if you’ve seen these trends doing the rounds, I hope this helps put your mind at ease. And as always, feel free to ask me any questions you have 🥰

Ps. These products were only on my face long enough to film this video and I had 5 (?!) spots the next day!!

Your skin becomes thinner.
More sensitive.
Less resilient.
But most skincare advice?
It doesn’t change with you.
So we keep using the same types of products…
and wonder why they stop working.
It’s not just aging.
It’s that your skin has different needs now.
And once you understand that…
everything starts to make more sense.

Your skincare might not be the problem... how you’re using it might be.
I often hear people say “my skincare just doesn’t work.”
But most of the time it’s not the products themselves. It’s one of these three things.
1. You’re not giving products long enough to work
Skin cells renew every 28 days ish, and many skincare ingredients work gradually within that cycle.
That means most products need at least 4-6 weeks of consistent use before you’ll see meaningful results.
If you switch products too quickly because you’re not seeing instant change, your skin never gets the chance to respond properly.
Consistency is key 🔑
2. Products are being applied in the wrong order
Layering your skincare correctly helps ingredients absorb and work effectively.
A simple guideline is:
Cleanse → Tone → Serums → Moisturiser → SPF(in the morning)/Oil (at night)
Lightweight, water-based products should go on first, followed by thicker creams or oils.
If heavier products are applied too early in the routine, they can limit how well lighter ingredients absorb into the skin.
3. Your skin barrier may be overwhelmed.
Many people are using multiple active ingredients at once - retinol, exfoliating acids, vitamin C, resurfacing treatments and more.
If too many strong actives are layered together, the skin barrier can become irritated, inflamed or dehydrated. If that happens, even good products struggle to perform properly.
It’s also really important to look at the ingredients in your products. Some formulas contain high levels of alcohol or harsh ingredients that can strip the skin and weaken the barrier over time.
If your skin often feels tight, sensitive or dehydrated after using products, it’s a sign that something in your routine is disrupting your skin barrier. The best thing you can do is simplify your routine and focus on hydration, barrier support and gentle formulations. When your skin barrier is healthy, your skincare will work much more effectively.

Skin cycling is a great way to introduce irritating actives gently, but shouldn’t be your forever routine.
If you’ve been doing retinol once a week for six months because of the cycle chart, you’re missing out massively on potential skin gains. Some actives only show the best results when they’re used regularly.
Use skin cycling where it makes sense, let your skin adapt, then let it work.
Skin cycling is a structured skincare approach that alternates active ingredients with recovery days to improve results while minimizing irritation. A typical cycle spans several nights: one night for exfoliation (using AHAs or BHAs), one night for a retinoid, followed by one or two nights focused on hydration and barrier repair. This method helps prevent overuse of strong actives, supports the skin barrier, and allows the skin time to recover, making it especially beneficial for those prone to sensitivity.

Your skincare routine might not need more products.
It might need structure.
A lot of routines right now are just layers of treatments…
but nothing actually has a role.
When every step tries to do everything, skin ends up managing noise instead of responding.
Editing the routine usually works better than adding to it.
If your routine feels crowded lately, drop RESET and I’ll show you the structure I use.
Skincare today feels like this… confusing and overwhelming. 😵💫

Truth is — you don’t need 10 products.
You just need the right routine for your skin type.

Do you need help with your skin care routine too?
One of the biggest misconceptions in skincare is thinking that routines should look the same morning and night.
But skin behaves differently depending on the time of day.
During the day it focuses on protection.
At night it focuses on repair.
When routines ignore that rhythm, ingredients often don’t perform as well as they could.
Understanding timing alone can completely change how effective a routine becomes.
Because skincare isn’t just about ingredients.
It’s about how and when they are used.

These are the 10 steps I took to finally perfect my skincare routine:
1. Know Your Skin Type
Identify whether your skin is oily, dry, combination, sensitive, or acne-prone. Your routine should always be tailored to what your skin actually needs.
2.Use a Gentle Cleanser
Cleanse morning and night to remove dirt, oil, sunscreen, and makeup without stripping your skin barrier.
3.Apply Products From Thinnest to Thickest
Start with watery products like toners and essences, then serums, and finish with heavier creams or oils so everything absorbs properly.
4.Use Active Ingredients Strategically
Ingredients like vitamin C, retinol, or exfoliating acids should be used intentionally and not all at once to avoid irritation.
5.Apply Hydrating Ingredients to Damp Skin
Humectants like hyaluronic acid work best when your skin is slightly damp so they can draw moisture into the skin.
6.Moisturize to Lock Everything In
Moisturizer helps seal hydration and supports your skin barrier so treatments can work more effectively.
7.Never Skip Sunscreen
Daily SPF protects against premature aging, pigmentation, and damage caused by UV exposure.
8.Don’t Over-Exfoliate
Exfoliating too often can damage your skin barrier. Most people only need chemical or physical exfoliation 1–3 times per week.
9.Be Consistent
The best skincare routine is one you follow regularly. Most products take weeks to show real results.
10.Listen to Your Skin
If your skin becomes irritated, dry, or inflamed, scale back and simplify. Your routine should evolve with your skin’s needs.
Sometimes the answer isn’t another product.
It’s making sure your skin is ready for what you’re already using.
Clean, prepped skin absorbs better.
And when the skin barrier is supported, everything works differently.
Same routine.
Better results.
💛 Save this if skincare ever feels confusing.
Some routines look busy.
But the skin still looks tired.
Hear me out.
If your skincare routine has a lot of steps
but your skin still feels a little… meh
It might not be a product problem.
A lot of routines right now look like this:
serum
another serum
another treatment
Layer after layer.
But nothing actually has a role.
When everything treats,
nothing really targets.
Skin just ends up managing noise.
The shift usually isn’t adding something new.
It’s editing the routine
and rebuilding it with structure.
Cleanse.
Treat.
Seal.
When each step has a job,
skin responds very differently.
