They gradually gather in areas with minimal vibration, creating these fascinating patterns. What you're seeing is actually sound energy made visible. 🎶🔬✨ İnspiration @okhousecat ❤️ #science #scienceexperiment #physics #tuningfork #soundwaves
This machine turns sound into something you can actually see. Invented in 1905, the Rubens Tube demonstrates how sound waves create pressure variations in a gas-filled chamber. As audio travels through the tube, those pressure changes alter the flow of gas escaping from tiny openings along its length. The result is a row of flames that rise and fall in perfect synchronization with the sound, transforming invisible acoustic waves into a mesmerizing visual pattern. More than a century later, it remains one of the most captivating demonstrations of physics ever created—revealing that sound isn’t just something we hear, but something that can be observed through its physical effects. follow for more @world.myst #Physics #Science #SoundWaves #Engineering #Innovation
Dear loved ones, It is extremely rare that I cancel a show, unfortunately I’ve been dealing with a dry cough this week that took my voice. I’m unable to perform today at Soundwaves but encourage you to go and support this fundraiser for Human Rights @eastsidecafela. Wishing all a great day and I’ll see you next time. X
A brilliant invention from 1905 by German physicist Heinrich Rubens, the Rubens' Tube is an incredible device that allows us to literally see sound waves using fire. This long metal pipe is filled with flammable gas and features a row of tiny punctures along the top. Once the gas is ignited, it creates a uniform line of flames. The moment sound is introduced into the tube, the internal pressure shifts in sync with the acoustic waves. This pressure change forces more gas out of certain holes than others, causing the flames to dance, rise, and fall. The stunning visual result perfectly maps out the shape of standing sound waves, beautifully turning invisible acoustics into something you can actually watch. #rubenstube #physics #scienceexperiment #soundwaves #acousticart

Explaination 👇 Sound and light are both waves, but they don't travel the same way at all. Sound is a mechanical wave — it needs a physical medium like air, water, or solid material to travel, because it works by physically vibrating particles, passing energy from one molecule to the next. That's exactly why there's no sound in the vacuum of space: with no particles to vibrate, sound simply has nothing to travel through. Light, on the other hand, is an electromagnetic wave — it doesn't need matter to move at all. Instead of vibrating particles, light travels as oscillating electric and magnetic fields that regenerate each other as they move, which is why it can cross the emptiness of space perfectly fine, arriving from stars millions of light-years away with nothing physical carrying it the whole way. Two things we casually call "waves" turn out to follow completely different rules at their core. Which physics fact should we break down next? When sound waves hit the polystyrene balls, they cause the air around them to vibrate. This vibration is transmitted to the balls, making them move. The movement depends on the frequency of the sound waves. For example, low-frequency sounds, such as bass, can cause larger movements, while high-frequency sounds, such as high-pitched sounds, can cause smaller, faster movements. This visualizes the way sound waves interact with the environment around them, including objects such as polystyrene balls. It’s a simple but effective way to demonstrate the concept of sound waves and their behavior. ❖ What do you think about this? #resonance #soundwaves #frequency #vibration #contagiousenergy #dancefloor #sharemusic #sharemovement
What’s this massive boom in the deep ocean? There’s something else weird happening about 1000 meters below the surface. Here, mysterious sounds ring out for thousands of kilometers making it hard to track them back to the source. Something about this section of water works like a highway for soundwaves. We think whales even use it like a long distance telephone system. In 1997, researchers recorded a GIGANTIC boom coming from the deep. It was so loud that it was picked up on microphones that were over 3000km apart. Rumors spread: was it evidence of an enormous sea monster? To find out more about this mysterious bloop and this unique ocean channel, follow along! #ocean #sound #science
