Welcome to the 2025 @southernliving Idea House where the best of the best come together to create a masterpiece of Southern architecture, build and style. This year’s #SLIdeaHouse in Charlottsville, Virginia did not disappoint. Every detail and fixture meticulously crafted and placed. Bravo to @charlottemossco for her bold and brave sense of design that fit the house beautifully. For those of you who don’t know, it was my @southernlivingmag magazines that made me fall in love with the south and inspired me to move to Charleston last year. i was on my way out the door this morning to go to work and when I looked around my home, it just was so beautiful with the spring sunshine and all the flowers blooming that I just had to take a moment and share it with you guys. There’s just something about making your home your own special place and adding the things that make you feel cozy and like you’ve created something special. A home is not just about Furniture. I say it all the time it’s about character, family, adding your own heart and soul to it. Looking for alternatives to hydrangeas on the porch? I moved ours to the shade on our back porch and here is what I use every year! I cant wait for these to fill in and spill over. Our Southern porch gets dappled sun in the AM but it heats up in the afternoon with lots of afternoon sun. -Geraniums are my GO TO for that big flowering and dramatic impact. They’re so easy to take care of and repeat flower! -Vinca love that afternoon sun -Wave Petunias do great! -Mandevilla are my favorites with a big impact also! They love the sun and I fill my planters with them. You’ll notice I have ferns and a few shade plants in my front porch planters. I’ve found they do well with routine watering and filtered sun from the other plants. The tall Queen Kimberly ferns actually do well in sun if planted early before the heat of summer! #southernporch #frontporch #coastalhome #coastalliving #southernhome

Taking at least 30 minutes during my daughter’s nap time to enjoy something I like to do instead of what needs to be done. Being a stay at home mom…you can get caught up in housework and then you feel like you haven’t had a break all day. So lately I’ve been trying to carve out some time just for “me”. Being a stay at home mom is my greatest joy and privilege, and it’s never lost on me. Slowly but surely each little pile in the garage becomes a sweet spot inside the house. One of the benefits of living close is I can just load up my car and bring over as much as I can fit. Thankful for a beautiful, cool May morning (Friday!) and time to sip coffee and spend some time with Tom. We are enjoying the book Everyday Gospel by Paul David Tripp—a good framework for starting the day. After several weekends of travel, we are home this weekend and focusing on getting the porch ready for the rest of the season. I’m hoping the worst of the pollen has past. I have some client work to finish up (and to start!) and I also want to share details of our Beaufort trip with y’all—it was a fun weekend destination!
