🧵Time to change strings for an upcoming concert in Stockholm and since some of you were asking, I thought it's a good time to say I recently signed as a @thomastikinfeld artist.
I've been using their strings for a long time, (even when I was playing the violin). I think they are very powerful and can take some punch, even though they keep a noble and excellent quality sound.
So for my viola which is a 1800 Antonio & Josef Gagliano:
my current setup is:
• Spirocore Tungsten (Wolfram) C
• Spirocore Chrome G
• Pro D
• Pro A
I think the spirocore C is simply hands down the best c viola string on the market. It has like 20% more volume than any other C string I've tried and gives a clear and crystal tone where most violas suffer and become muddy. I tried the G string also from this set and got a similar result so I asked to get my hands on the d and a, and thomastic said they will send me a set to try.
I also like the Pro d and A a lot. The give a powerful and beautiful sound with a lot of core. I think this set suits my viola which is a very warm and dark instrument but maybe needs a little extra brightness and volume some times.
So that's all folks!
Tell me your feedback and expériences.

In Russian music, string playing has a very distinctive sound — not superficial, but deep, rich, and coming from within. The bow sinks into the string, creating a sense of weight and inner intensity.
A key element is cantabile: the phrase doesn’t break, it flows in one continuous breath. There’s a parallel with the Russian language itself — it connects words smoothly, without sharp pauses or “dry” sounds.
Even in pianissimo the tone remains full, while climaxes are powerful and emotionally charged.
🎻 Russian string tradition is about sound as speech — continuous, alive, and deeply expressive.

Not sure what size violin or viola you should be playing?
Finding the right size makes a bigger difference than most people expect. When the instrument fits your arm length and hand comfortably, it’s easier to play, easier to learn, and a lot more enjoyable to practice.
In this video we show a simple way to check sizing using a yardstick, so you can get a better idea of what feels right before you choose.
