Fun fact: beneath St. Patrick’s Cathedral sits a hidden crypt most visitors will never see 👀🕯️ Down there are the tombs of some of New York’s most influential Catholic leaders…. including Archbishop John Hughes, who actually oversaw the cathedral’s construction in the 1800s!!! It’s not massive like European catacombs, just a quiet, sacred space tucked beneath one of the busiest streets in the world… which somehow makes it even cooler. Kind of wild to think millions of people walk past every day with no idea what’s directly underneath them. After a fire destroyed the original cathedral, the church was rebuilt in the Gothic Revival architectural style.
