I’m many things. I’m an actor. I’m a writer. I’m a comedian. But I’m also a director, and as a female director I believe it’s my responsibility to help make this industry safer. Every set I run does things a little differently because the safety and dignity of actors should never be an afterthought. On my sets we have clear communication before filming begins, actors always know exactly what a scene requires, consent is ongoing and can be withdrawn at any time, closed sets are used for vulnerable scenes, and actors are never pressured to do something they’re uncomfortable with. I make space for questions, I encourage boundaries, and I protect my cast the same way I would want to be protected as an actor. Film sets should be collaborative, respectful, and safe places to create. That’s the kind of environment I’m committed to building every time I direct. 🎬 #explore #actor #director #setlife #castingnotice

On Friday in the Kylemore Suite at 10:45am we have a ‘Career in Focus: Line Producing – The Most Important Person on Set’ Line producers Ailish Bracken ( ‘Mix Tape’, ‘The Gone’), Cathleen Dore (‘Blackshore’, ‘These Sacred Vows’) and Kathy Tynan (‘The Walsh Sisters’, ‘Sanctuary – A Witches Tale’) hosted by Lorraine Higgins (National Talent Academy Crew West), explain why this role anchors high-end TV production. The session breaks down daily realities: translating scripts to budgets, managing Section 481 compliance, crew scheduling across 100+ departments, location logistics, and shielding directors from chaos. Panelists share lessons from period drama, crime series and literary adaptations—handling VFX-heavy shoots, international co-pro workflows, and keeping spend under control without compromising vision. Aimed at production managers and emerging line producers, it highlights craft skills that turn complex series into on-schedule, on-budget realities. The networking tea/ coffee break following this Line Producers panel is kindly supported by National Talent Academy Crew West. Read programme highlights from the two-day event on Ardán’s website link in our bio! 🔗 Late bird tickets are now gone so we are operating a waiting list. If you’d like to be added to the list please email [email protected] #FÍSTVSummit #FÍSTVSummit2026
Neutral scenes are often more powerful than actors realise. They show control, grounding, and how you exist on screen without relying on heightened emotion.Subtlety isn’t a weakness. It’s a skill. I post practical showreel advice for actors every week.
I was on set when a surprise surfaced around a guest role. This actor had a massive monologue, multiple pages, and they knew every single word cold. Every pause. Even the stage directions felt "locked in." So the camera starts rolling and they’re completely robotic. no sense of discovery. Not because they didn’t prepare...Because every single thought was about not messing up the lines. That’s fear with a mask of preparation. we grabbed a moment together and got really specific with the imagery: I helped plant a seed for allowing versus delivering. Was it a perfect fix? No. But something unlocked. And they found something real inside all of that terror. Do not allow your fear to let you fixate on the lines. The dialogue is only the jumping off point. Have you ever shown up -- thinking you were completely prepared but then still felt completely frozen? Drop a comment 👇 I have your back on this if you need some support. I’m not saying be “Shut up and just be grateful” 🤕 I’m saying complaining about being on set on a call day about waiting, is unprofessional and not something you want production to hear. 😇 This is a gentle reminder for you or other actors on set getting frustrated that: “Hurry up and wait” is the name of the game. It’s up to YOU to try and utilise that time to the best of your abilities - we often feel there’s not enough hours in a day to do all the things we want. You’re allowed (no ENCOURAGED) to bring your hobbies/other work with you. This waiting time is also really a gift to spend more time with your acting material that’s just as much part of the job. 🥂Here’s to cultivating better energy on set together!
You just booked the role. Now the real work begins. Most working actors don’t have someone in their corner whose only job is to protect their performance. Your director is managing a hundred things. Your scene partners are managing their own. And you’re expected to show up fully prepared, fully present — every single day. That’s exactly what I do. I’m Sarah — on-set acting coach and private coach for working actors. I've been hired by productions to work across 13 seasons of tv and I just supported on my first feature film. (can't wait for more of that!) When you have something high-stakes coming up, I help you go deep — on the material, the character, the arc — so you walk on set knowing your work is solid. Private one-on-one sessions available -- link in bio to set up a free chat . #screenacting #oncameraacting #actingcoach #filmacting
Self-tape ➡️ Screen 🎬 My original audition vs the final scene from Coronation Street, where I played a friendly (and very enthusiastic!) business host who absolutely loves what she does. I always love seeing how a character evolves from the audition stage to the finished episode. Grateful to have stepped back into Weatherfield again for this one! ✨Actors — never underestimate what a self-tape can turn into #actorslife #tvcasting #actorsuk #selftape #thistapebooked
You know that feeling when you watch the trailer for a new movie? That rush of excitement, the ache of anticipation, the energy of it all. Who says that can’t also work for actors? Clips from @commentsfilm (dir. @dani_baynesagram ), Art is Subjective (dir. @thecampbellmedia ), Stephen (dir. @brendankelly_acts ), and a showreel scene from Harrow with @thetoffstuff #actor #setlife #trailer #australianactor #showreel
Showreels don’t need to be intense from start to finish. Constant intensity flattens impact.Variation gives scenes room to breathe and makes strong moments land harder. I post practical showreel advice for actors every week.
