1. Salon nails.
Press-ons have become my best friend. They take me 10 minutes, cost a fraction of the price, and honestly last me surprisingly well.
2. Trendy clothes.
I’d rather invest in high-quality basics I’ll wear for years than constantly keep up with every trend. Less really is more.
3. Hair appointments every few months.
Now I usually get one or two haircuts a year and style it myself at home. It saves so much money without feeling like I’m missing out.
4. Seasonal home décor.
I used to buy decorations for every holiday… now I save that money and go all out at Christmas instead. 😂🎄
5. Eating out because I don’t feel like cooking.
Meal prepping has honestly changed everything. We save money, eat healthier, and never have that “What’s for dinner?” stress.
6. Every viral product I see online.
Motherhood taught me that I don’t need every Amazon find or TikTok trend. If it genuinely makes our life easier, great. If not, I skip it.
7. Buying something just because it’s on sale.
A good deal isn’t really a good deal if I wasn’t planning to buy it in the first place. I’d rather save that money for experiences with my family. 🤍
I’ve realized I get so much more joy from investing in quality time, experiences, and the things that truly make our everyday life easier than constantly buying more stuff.
These are simply the things that stopped being worth it for me. 🤍

People tell me how lucky I am that I get to be home with my kids.
I AM, AND there’s another part of that story that you don’t necessarily see on Instagram: I didn’t just quit my day job and magically gain a flexible life.
I built a career in digital marketing that allowed me to work my own hours, choose the projects I take on and the people I work with. I can build my work around my family instead of constantly trying to build my family around my work (thank you hashem!!)

I was never the person who had dreams of being a stay home mom. I truly loved teaching. I loved my students, my district, and the work. But when my babies were born, after spending over 280 days in the NICU, I knew I didn’t want to miss any of their moments.
So I started over In a new company I had no real knowledge about. However, I saw the compensation plan and was sold. I knew it was doable.

For so many years after becoming a stay at home mom, I basically just stopped caring what I looked like. I stopped getting my hair and nails done (I still don’t get my nails done 😅) I ate and drank what I wanted when I wanted; and at one point, even stopped working out altogether.

I’d tell myself, it doesn’t matter because nobody sees me anyway and my hubby and kids could care less and still think “mama is beautiful”…

But here’s the thing; it did matter. Because I had to see myself. Read that again. I HAD to see myself. I had to see myself as more than just a wife and mom. I had to remind myself who I was before them.

I used to feel so guilty at the thought of spending money on things that seemed so frivolous and vain. Not anymore. I realize now that these things we do for ourselves, like getting our hair done, is like an investment into ourselves. Into our well-being. Into reminding ourselves we’re still THAT GURL!

One day I asked my parents to come to Canada so I could go back to work and they could help me with my kid.
I thought it was the best solution.💁♀️
But then my mom said something I couldn’t stop thinking about.💭🥺
“Beta, your kid is little only once.
One day, he won’t need you to carry him.
One day, he will be busy with his own lives.

I didn’t know what to say.😬😬
Because deep down, I knew she had a point.🫡
But I also had responsibilities.

Bills to pay.
A future to build.
A strong desire to contribute financially.
And a part of me that wanted to be more than just a mom.
As an immigrant mom, I felt stuck between earning money and being there for my children.
I thought I had to choose.
Work OR motherhood.
Then I started looking for another option.
I began learning digital skills and exploring ways to build an income from home, around my family’s schedule.
It didn’t happen overnight.
I started small.
I learned step by step.
And slowly, I realized I could build something for myself without missing every important moment with my kid.
I didn’t need to choose one life.
I just needed to find a way that worked for me. ❤️
