This type of development is called “new urbanism” and it was built with a focus on walkability, community, and connectivity. 📍Walden, Mechanicsburg, PA  #urbandesign #newurbanism #urbanplanning #suburbs
Have you ever driven through an intersection like this? There are over 30 in the United States, 11 of which are in Utah alone. This one is located at Austin Blvd, Miamisburg, Ohio. #traffic #civilengineering #citiesskylines #roaddesign

Large parking lots may not actually save you any time on travel. It's counterintuitive, but it's true! @streetcraft recently shared a fascinating video that challenges how we perceive distance when walking. Did you know sightlines and scale can significantly influence how far we think we're walking? 🚶‍♂️ The Downtown Redevelopment Plan emphasizes creating a more walkable, pedestrian-friendly environment with human-scale design that makes every stroll enjoyable. Parking a block away downtown might not be much different than parking at the far end of a big-box store’s lot, but it opens up space for vibrant, pedestrian-focused areas. It’s a small shift in thinking that can have a big impact on how we experience and enjoy Downtown Lloydminster. What are your thoughts on this? #DowntownLloydminster
Today: Aranđelovac, Serbia I know — many of you are allergic to roundabouts. But here, it’s actually a good choice. Why? 1. We have a T-intersection with equal traffic volumes. 2. We need a physical “stopper” here, because the main transit flow turns at this point. To make it work, I applied the following techniques: • Only one lane in the roundabout! (Otherwise, it could be dangerous, and I would’ve had to use a different solution.) • A straight 90° entry; • A shifted (deflected) exit; • Traffic islands to help both pedestrians and drivers; • And of course — no traffic lights needed. For trucks, there’s a so-called “truck apron”, since they need more space to turn. Now it’s safer and more compact! Reminder: This is just a sketch — there’s no real reconstruction plan (yet). #urbanplanning #architecturedrawing #urbandesign #beforeandafter #showitbetter #procreate #streetcraft #citylooks #serbia
Today we have a pretty common case here: an acute-angled intersection with inconvenient pedestrian crossings, chaotic number of lanes and just a massive slab of asphalt. In addition, the traffic lights here are broken for years. In such cases, we have 3 options: 1) make a simple roundabout (but here we have to close one exit, because there is no room for a such roundabout); 2) peanut roundabout - looks pretty exotic, but it’s common in North Europe. Too complicated for a little Serbian town; 3) just to make the right angle. We loose only through west-east traffic, but here is not a big deal. In total: less asphalt; more safety, greenery, and convenience for all actors (including drivers - now they have simple and clear way). #urbanplanning #architecturedrawing #urbandesign #beforeandafter #showitbetter #procreate #streetcraft #citylooks #prokuplje #roaddesign #cityforpeople
@streetcraft crushed this explanation of why most consumers mentally reject parking in urban environments. Fascinating.
