🏠 Finally shifted to a Student Dorm in Germany!
After 6 months of searching, I got this spacious room for just €285 per month. The best part? Electricity, heating, water, and other basic utilities are already included in the rent.
My biggest advice to future students: As soon as you receive your admission letter, apply for student accommodation immediately. The waiting list can be very long, and applying early can save you a lot of money and stress later.
Student dorms are usually one of the most affordable accommodation options in Germany and a great choice for international students.
Have you already applied for your accommodation? 🇩🇪✨

Germany’s political landscape is making headlines. 🇩🇪
Recent statements by AfD leader Alice Weidel regarding immigration, border control and migrant policies have sparked discussions across Germany and Europe.
But what could political developments like these mean for international students and Germany aspirants?
It is important to distinguish between political statements, campaign promises and officially implemented laws. Germany’s current education system and student visa regulations continue to operate under existing rules and policies.
As the political landscape evolves, staying informed through reliable and official sources remains important.

German birthdays are nothing like Indian birthdays… 🎂
When I first celebrated birthdays in Germany, a few traditions really caught me by surprise. If you’re moving there as a student or professional, here’s what you should know:
🎉 1. Never wish someone “Happy Birthday” before their actual birthday.
Many Germans believe it’s bad luck. Wait until the day arrives!
🍰 2. The birthday person brings the cake.
At universities and workplaces, it’s common for the person celebrating to bring cake, snacks, or sweets for everyone else—not the other way around.
💳 3. Don’t assume the birthday person is paying for everyone.
In India, if you invite friends out, it’s often expected that you’ll treat everyone. In Germany, it’s very common for each person to pay for their own food and drinks unless the invitation clearly mentions that it’s your treat. If you’re unsure, it’s completely normal to ask beforehand.
🎁 4. Gifts are usually thoughtful and practical.
Many people prefer useful or meaningful gifts over expensive ones, and friends often ask what you’d like instead of guessing.
🥂 5. Celebrations are often simple and intimate.
Instead of large birthday parties, many people celebrate with a small dinner, drinks, or a gathering with close friends and family.
📍These are based on my experience and the experiences of many other international students. Customs can differ across regions and friend groups, so your experience may vary.

Moving to Germany? 🇩🇪 Your blocked account and insurance shouldn’t be the most complicated part of the journey.
With BASTI by Care Concept, you can arrange important relocation essentials such as your blocked account and suitable insurance solutions in one place — instead of dealing with multiple providers separately.
