@treehousecx Eve. ‘Twas the night before Tree House CX, when through the brewery grounds, Not a rider was pedaling, not even in rounds; The kegs were tapped with the greatest of care, In hopes that the cyclo-crossers soon would be there; The racers, now dreaming in their cozy beds, With visions of hops and malty brews in their heads; And the bikes in the rack, gears all set just right, Awaited the dawn of the mud-spattered fight. When out on the course arose such a clinking, As tires on gravel, I imagined without thinking. Away to the course I wandered through the mist, To check on the flyover and the turns and the twists. With a race director, so lively and keen, I knew in a moment it was the cyclo-cross scene. More rapid than eagles, the cyclists they came, And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name: “Now! Grinder, now! Sprinter, now! Pouncer and Vixen, On! Comet, on! Cupid, on! Donder and Blitzen; To the top of the flyover! to the end of the wall! Now pedal away! pedal away! pedal away all!” As dry leaves before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet an obstacle, mount to the sky, So up to the brewery-top the riders they flew, With bikes full of vigor, and the race director too. And then in a twinkling, I heard on the gravel The dancing and spinning of each little pedal. As I drew in my head, and was turning around, Up the flyover the racers came with a bound. They were dressed in all lycra, from their head to their foot, And their kits were all tarnished with mud and with soot; A bundle of bikes they had flung on their back, And they looked like a peloton just hitting the track. Their eyes—how they twinkled! Their jerseys, how merry! Their cheeks were like roses, their noses like cherry! Their droll little helmets were drawn down on the brow, As they sped past the spectators, who cheered them on now. With spokes that twinkled and gears that turned quick, The excitement built as they navigated the slick; The crowd roared and clapped, and gave a big cheer, In hopes that Tree House CX would come back every year.
