A crucial thing for film composers to learn outside of the art of composing: communicating and working with a group! #composer #filmcomposer #filmspotting #synths #synthesizers #electronicmusic #trumpet #musician #jazz #jazzmusic #jazzmusician #markisham #music #filmscore #musicscore #musiceducation #filmeducation

How I start composing a film. I have two approaches and it really depends on the project and what it's going to need musically. #composer #filmcomposer #musiceducation #synths #synthesizers #electronicmusic #trumpet #musician #jazz #jazzmusic #jazzmusician #markisham #music #filmscore #musicscore

A tip for composers! All the choices you make, beginning to end, have to be based on what emotionally serves the story. #composer #filmcomposer #synths #synthesizers #electronicmusic #trumpet #musician #jazz #jazzmusic #jazzmusician #markisham #music #filmscore #musicscore

WRITERS BLOCK - the nefarious inner demon. I think being a jazz musician where improvising is so much of the skill set helps me a lot with this one. It forces you to stop thinking and just DO IT! #writersblock #creativeblock #composer #filmcomposer #musiceducation #filmscore #musicscore #filmsoundtracks #soundtrack #synths #synthesizers #electronicmusic #trumpet #musician #jazz #jazzmusic #jazzmusician #markisham #music

The opening of a jazz piece I wrote a while back for big band- trying to emulate those big rolling chords in the opening of Frank Sinatra’s “Ebb Tide.” Enjoy! . . . . #composer #filmcomposer #indiefilm #independentfilms #independentfilmmaker #lafilm #jazz #composerlife #movie #bigband

A key element of a great recording session: 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘂𝗹, 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻, 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀. 🎼 When I prepare scores, my goal is simple—make the musicians feel comfortable and confident with the music in front of them. When that happens, you get the best performance out of any ensemble. . . . . #musicproducers #composer #filmmusic #orchestration

Filmmaker friends: minor chords just aren’t scary. Sure, scary is about how music is played: detuned sounds, scraping bows, pulsing drones, creepy textures. But if we’re talking pure harmony, some sonorities are way more unsettling than minor. I'm talking about stacked minor or major chords hiding an augmented chord, clusters, and 7–9 chords. (Have your composer DM me if they want to know what those are.) More music nerdosity soon.❤️ #filmcomposer, #FilmComposer #ComposerLife #MusicForFilm #ScreenComposer #FilmMusic #MusiqueDeFilm #Compositeur #CompositeurDeFilm #MusiqueÀLImage
