A hand in the dark ❄️❤️
One of opera’s most beloved arias, 'Che gelida manina' marks the moment Rodolfo and Mimì’s story begins.
Filled with youthful hope, tenderness and Puccini’s soaring lyricism, it remains one of the most instantly recognisable moments in La bohème.
📅 La bohème returns to our Main Stage from 1 July.

One of opera’s most beloved arias 🎶
‘O mio babbino caro’ is one of Puccini’s most recognisable melodies, sung by Lauretta as she pleads with her father to let her marry the man she loves.
The aria comes from Gianni Schicchi, Puccini’s brilliantly comic tale of a family whose desperate search for an inheritance leads them to an audacious deception.
▶️ All three instalments of Il trittico are now available to watch on Royal Ballet and Opera Stream.

“A goddess of the opera stage 👸🎼
In opera, a diva is not just a leading soprano but an artist whose voice, presence and charisma can hold an audience in the palm of her hand (…)
Today the word might be used playfully for anyone with star quality, yet in the opera house it still suggests vocal brilliance, dramatic power and a touch of grandeur”

A love story that feels real ❤️
Why has La bohème captivated audiences for generations?
For @freddiedetommaso, who sings Rodolfo, it’s because beneath Puccini’s extraordinary music is a story of ordinary people, their friendships, their struggles and the love that changes their lives.
In this 60-second story synopsis, Freddie takes us through the events of La bohème, from Rodolfo and Mimì’s first meeting to one of opera’s most heartbreaking finales.
📅 See La bohème on our Main Stage until 25 July.

Last night, we unveiled our new Main Stage curtains at the Spring Gala - a truly special moment for us. We were honoured to welcome His Majesty King Charles III to celebrate an occasion that not only marks a milestone in our history, but also pays tribute to the enduring artistry and craftsmanship that bring stage design to life.
Installed in 1997, the previous curtains bore the unmistakable marks of a life at the heart of performance - shaped by countless curtain rises and falls, and carrying the faint traces left by generations of dancers and singers as they rushed on stage for their final bows.
Crafted in collaboration with curtain production specialists Gerriets and expert embroiderers at the Royal School of Needlework, the new curtains are made of mohair velour, each measuring 9.75m wide by 10.8m drop.
They feature the personal cypher of His Majesty The King, Patron of the Royal Ballet and Opera, The Royal Opera and The Royal Ballet, who was in attendance in the Royal Box for the Gala.
The evening brought together The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera, alongside the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, the Royal Opera Chorus and Jette Parker Artists.

Leporello has been keeping count 📜
In Mozart’s famous Catalogue Aria, Leporello shows Donna Elvira the record of his master’s conquests, including an astonishing 1,003 women in Spain alone.
Mozart gives the list an irresistible comic momentum, but beneath Leporello’s wit lies the darker truth of Don Giovanni’s world, where women are reduced to numbers in a catalogue.
📅 Don Giovanni returns to our Main Stage from 10 September.

A little magic for the heart 🧪❤️
Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore brings together romance and comedy in one of his most beloved operas.

All eyes on Musetta 🎵
Also known as Quando me’n vo’, Musetta’s Waltz comes in Act II of Puccini’s La bohème, as Musetta sets out to reclaim Marcello’s attention with a performance designed to leave a lasting impression.
Equal parts flirtation and declaration, the aria reveals Musetta at her most confident, with every phrase carefully calculated to draw Marcello back to her while the bustle of Café Momus unfolds around them.
📅 La bohème is on our Main Stage until 25 July.
