Most people think improv is about being funny…it’s actually not. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned while studying improv at @thesecondcity in Chicago is that it’s really about listening, staying present, and responding honestly in the moment. Over the past few months I’ve been documenting my journey learning improv here in Chicago, and it’s already changed the way I think about acting. I’m currently starting Improv for Actors, and even though this is just the beginning, I’ve learned that improv reveals a lot about how present you actually are in a scene. What I love most about being here isn’t just the training! it’s the community, the relationships I’ve built, and the constant reminder that acting is less about trying to be clever and more about being truthful. This is just the start of the journey, and I’m excited to keep sharing what I’m learning along the way!☺️🙏🏼 #improv #thesecondcity #chicago #actor #class
The beginning is always the bravest part. Our Improv 6-week course has begun. Last night was our first step together. We practiced making mistakes — on purpose. Learning how to fail safely. How to stay open when things don’t go “right.” We built a space where experimenting feels allowed. Where trying is more important than being perfect. Thank you for bringing your authentic selves. That’s where real work begins. #ImprovCourse #NYCclasses #CreativeCommunity #ActingForNonActors #TISTOstudio
It takes courage to walk into an improv class. To show up with no script, no plan! just yourself. But what I’ve learned is that improv isn’t just about acting… it’s about how we show up in life. Two simple principles: 1.) Say yes. 2.) Validate. Not because you always agree, but because you’re choosing to acknowledge someone else’s reality, their thoughts, their feelings. In a world that’s quick to judge, interrupt, or dismiss… we’ve forgotten how powerful it is to simply let someone be heard. A “yes” can open someone up. Validation can change someone’s entire day. Improv taught me that connection doesn’t come from being right, it comes from being present. And maybe that’s something we could all do a little more of. #improv #courage #adviceoftheday #life #mindset
In acting, both emotion and physicality are important. Emotion allows the actor to connect with the character's inner life, while physicality helps to bring the character to life in a tangible way. Balancing both can create a well-rounded performance. #YesAndChallenge #improvdiscussion #comedytalk #acting #Improv #SuiteToothComedy

Just trying anything is something to be hugely proud of! My journey is to ‘Experience’ improv classes @thesecondcity and see where that takes me as an actor. I encourage you to ‘Try’. And you know, that’s will always be enough ❤️ #encouragement #improv #motivation #mindset #goals
Walking into your first improv class takes real courage as you’re stepping into the unknown...and that’s exactly where confidence grows! Improv training builds social skills, creativity, and communication in a supportive space full of kind, like-minded people (who often turn into lifelong, goofy friends). We’ve seen so much growth in classes this month and we’re proud of every one of you. Not in yet, a couple spots still left in the next round! See you there.. #ImprovClass #ImprovComedy #ConfidenceBuilding #LosAngelesComedy #ActingClass #PersonalGrowth #CreativeCommunity

He who asks questions is a thief. 🎭 Book: ‘Truth in Comedy’ by Charna Halpern, Del Close, Kim “Howard” Johnson. I’m only in my 3rd week at Second City, and the biggest lesson so far isn’t how to be funny, it’s how to be a “gift-giver.” When you stop asking “What’s happening?” and start saying “This is what’s happening,” the scene finally takes off. #improv #book #acting #lesson #class
The room is waiting for YOU! ❤️ 20 years ago, I didn't see anyone who looked like me on stage or in the classroom. I thought that meant I didn't belong. Today, I see more brown faces in the classroom, and it brings me joy. But showing up is just step one. We need your stories. We need your perspective. We need your voice. Tag a creative, improviser, or actor who needs to hear this today. 👇🏾
