For over 500 years, the Holy Quran has been recited non-stop, 24 hours a day, in the Chamber of the Holy Relics at Istanbul’s Topkapi Palace✨ #instanbul #turkey #topkapipalace #fyp #viral
Imagine what these walls have seen. 📍 Topkapi Palace, Istanbul #digicam #digitalcamera #ccdcamera #fyp #visualdiary
Today, these halls are filled with tourists from around the world. But 400 years ago, this was no museum. The cameras were replaced by royal guards. The visitors by Ottoman courtiers. And the silence by the affairs of one of the most powerful empires in history. Standing here, it’s impossible not to wonder what these walls have witnessed over the centuries. Same palace. Same walls. Different century. 📍 Topkapi Palace, Istanbul, Türkiye 🇹🇷 Follow @WanderlustBySahil for more journeys through history, culture, and hidden stories from around the world. #TopkapiPalace #Istanbul #TurkeyTravel #Türkiye #OttomanEmpire OttomanHistory HistoricalPlaces TravelHistory HistoryReels TravelReels ExploreTurkey VisitIstanbul TravelPhotography HistoryLovers Wanderlust TravelBlogger TravelContentCreator CulturalHeritage MuseumLife ExploreTheWorld BucketListTravel InstaTravel TravelGram HistoryTok AncientHistory WorldHeritage ReelTravel TravelInspiration WanderlustBySahil

📌ALTIN YOL. 📌GOLDEN ROAD. TOPKAPI PALACE HAREM. ISTANBUL The Golden Road, located in the Harem section of Topkapı Palace, is an approximately 46-meter-long main corridor extending from the Harem Gate to the inner chambers. It was called the “Golden Road” in the 19th century; previously, it was known as the “Long Road.” According to tradition, during princely accession (cülus) ceremonies, gold was scattered to the Harem residents along this corridor, and sultans are also said to have distributed pouches of gold during religious festivals. This route was also used by the sultan when moving between different private chambers within the Harem, and it is regarded as one of the most private and significant circulation axes of the palace.
623 years of empire. Ended in a single afternoon vote. On 1 November 1922 the Grand National Assembly of Turkey meeting in Ankara voted to abolish the Ottoman Sultanate. No dramatic final battle. No last stand. Just a vote in a room the sultan was not even present in. The last sultan Mehmed VI was in Istanbul inside Topkapi Palace when it happened. He was the 36th sultan of a dynasty that had ruled for 623 years. He waited 16 days after the vote hoping something would change. Nothing changed. On 17 November 1922 before sunrise he slipped out through a back entrance of the palace. He was afraid to use the front door. Afraid of crowds. Afraid of what might happen if people saw him leaving. A British warship was waiting at the dock. He arrived with one suitcase and almost no money. The man who had inherited 36 palaces left with one suitcase. Then on 3 March 1924 the Caliphate was abolished. The entire Osmanoglu dynasty was given 24 hours to leave Turkey. The family that had governed the world for 623 years was handed exile papers and told to disappear by morning. They scattered across Europe and America. Some family members were so completely separated they did not know other relatives were still alive for decades. The exile did not just separate them from their homeland. It separated them from each other. The current head of the Osmanoglu dynasty lives in New Jersey today. The mosques still stand. The palaces still stand. The city they built for 623 years still stands on the Bosphorus welcoming millions of visitors every year. They are still not fully home. 623 years. One afternoon vote. One suitcase. One back door before sunrise. That is how empires end. Drop your flag if this story still stops you every single time. Follow (@history___ana) for more forgotten stories like this!
