What an incredible night on stage for the world premiere of my newest opera commission — a brand new adaptation of Treemonisha by Scott Joplin. It was truly a joy to serve as composer, arranger, orchestrator, and onstage pianist for this special production. Even more meaningful was sharing the moment with the brilliant Denyce Graves-Montgomery, who directed the production with such vision and power—and who also celebrated her birthday last night! Being able to make music, create new work, and celebrate a dear friend all at once made the evening unforgettable. Moments like these remind me why I love this art form and the incredible community that surrounds it. Here’s to new music, great friendships, and continuing the legacy of American opera. #Treemonisha #NewOpera #DamienSneed #DenyceGraves #WorldPremiere 🎭🎶✨
