Turkey Tail Mushrooms and their benefits! #mushrooms #turkeytail #foraging #survival #bushcraft
In a study led by Dr. Stephen Barnhill and Dr. Herb Fritsch, researchers tested 10 different mushroom extracts against 10 cancer cell lines. (Comment TULSY and I will send you a link to the full interview) ๐Ÿ‘‰ Chaga came out on topโ€”most effective against 6 out of 10 cancer typesโ€ฆand showed effectiveness against 2 more. Reishi beat it on two (HER2+ breast and uterine), and turkey tail was the strongest against lung cancer. But hereโ€™s what makes this really exciting๐Ÿ‘‡ When you combine the top-performing mushroomsโ€”chaga, reishi, turkey tail, cordyceps, maitake, and lionโ€™s maneโ€”you get a powerhouse blend that supports your body from multiple angles. Some target cancer. Some support brain health. Others boost immunity and cardiovascular health. When you flood your body with compounds from whole, plant-based foodsโ€”and ditch the processed junkโ€”you give your body what it needs to repair, restore, and thrive! ______ Meet Tulsy Ball, who went from acting to filmmaking to fungi (I know, I know). In 2014, Tulsy and his brother Premu discovered the incredible healing properties of chaga mushrooms, while on a documentary film project in Alaska. Chaga mushrooms played a key role in their sisterโ€™s recovery from breast cancer and inspired them to develop a unique, and dare I say, โ€œrevolutionaryโ€ mushroom extract process and the company Chagit Wellness. โœณ๏ธ A peek into what we talk about: โ€ข Discovering Chaga mushrooms โ€ข The Chagit extraction process โ€ข The science behind the Chagit extract โ€ข Traditional uses of the chaga mushroom โ€ข The six medicinal mushroom โ€œAvengersโ€ โ€ข Flooding your body with anticancer compounds โ€ข Most pharmaceuticals originate in nature โ€ข The pros and cons of modern medicine ๐Ÿ’ฌ Comment TULSY to watch the full interview and learn more about this game-changing approach. Turkey tail mushroom (trametes versicolor) is a wonderful beginner friendly mushroom to forage, great for kids to get involved Letโ€™s get straight into how to identify it: - it should be fan shaped and resemble a turkeyโ€™s tail - a bracket mushroom - concentric varying colour circles, outer is always white - it has pores underneath (polypore mushroom) that are white, False Turkey tail have brown pores not white - underneath must be white - the top should feel leathery or velvety - it does not have gills underneath or no sponges or spikes on top Remember the true organism lives with in the fallen log or the tree that you are looking to harvest from. The mushrooms are the fruit. This is a fungus that eats away at the lignin parts of the tree, these are the parts that help fight disease and bugs in the tree. The fungus turns these into polysaccharides which have been widely researched. There are fantastic talks online from @paulstamets discussing the benefits it can have for people going through chemotherapy. It has been used for an immunity boost, to support people with low energy, reduce fatigue, boost gut health and possibly support weight loss by managing blood sugar levels. It has no psycho active compounds. My One Minute Gardener harvested these mushrooms for me by gently pulling them from the tree without impacting the bark and taking only a tiny amount. They were brought home, washed clean and left them on the windowsill to take in some of the suns energy to create more vitamin D. We dried these further in the oven, low and slow. Once cooled it was blended down. We can now add this to tea, soups, stews and many more recipes. Do you use turkey tail in any recipes?
