UCLA LONZO BALL WAS DIFFERENT. 😮‍💨🔥 Before the injuries, before all the questions about what his NBA career could have been, there was 2016-17 Lonzo Ball at UCLA — and for one season, he was one of the most electric players in college basketball. As a freshman, Lonzo averaged 14.6 PPG, 7.6 APG and 6.0 RPG, while shooting an absurd 55.1% from the field and 41.2% from three. His 274 assists broke UCLA’s single-season record, and he led the entire country in both assists and assists per game. And the clip in this edit comes from one of UCLA’s biggest games of the year. On February 9, 2017, No. 10 UCLA faced No. 5 Oregon. The Bruins had lost to Oregon earlier that season, but this time Lonzo helped UCLA pull off an 82-79 comeback victory, finishing with 15 points and 11 rebounds while hitting three three-pointers. That entire UCLA team was must-watch basketball. They finished 31-5, reached the Sweet 16, and Lonzo became a consensus First-Team All-American and National Freshman of the Year before becoming the No. 2 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. The crazy part is that Lonzo only played 36 college games. One season was enough to make him one of the most memorable college point guards of his generation. If you watched UCLA Lonzo live, you KNOW the hype was real. 🥶 🎥 Credit: @sec2ndnature #LonzoBall #UCLA #UCLABasketball #CollegeBasketball #MarchMadness

Cori Close is a phenomenal coach and she nailed it in her post game interview. Talent sets the floor. Character sets the ceiling. And championships? They’re built in the reps no one sees. Not perfect. Not polished. Just aligned. Do it your way— then do it again tomorrow. That’s how systems win. 🏆 Congrats coach and UCLA basketball! Follow for more. "Self-Ejection" Stunt: Jalen & Mash Keep It Real 🏀😤 The Big Ten transition just got even saltier for the Bruins! UCLA head coach Mick Cronin sent shockwaves through college hoops during a brutal 82-59 loss to Michigan State on February 17, 2026. 411SPORTSWORLD breaks down why the legends Jalen Rose and Jamal Mashburn aren't buying what Cronin is selling. The Incident: The "Coach-Ordered" Ejection With about 4:26 left and the Bruins down by 27, center Steven Jamerson II committed a hard flagrant foul on MSU's Carson Cooper. Before the refs could even finish their review, Cronin took matters into his own hands: * The Boot: Cronin grabbed Jamerson's jersey and pointed him straight to the tunnel. * The Reasoning: Cronin called the move "thoroughly disappointing," stating that playing "tough guy" during a blowout on a defenseless player isn't what UCLA basketball is about. * The Homecoming: This was a personal low for Jamerson, who was a former MSU student and manager-hopeful before playing DI ball. Jalen & Mash's "Straight Facts": * The "Optics" Problem: Jalen Rose pointed out that while "holding players accountable" is one thing, doing it in a performative way during a blowout feels like a coach trying to deflect from the fact his team is getting hammered. * Lost the Locker Room?: Jamal Mashburn questioned the psychological impact. "You don't embarrass a kid like that in front of a hostile road crowd," Mash argued. "Handle that in the locker room, not for the cameras." * Double Standard: The duo noted that UCLA is currently struggling (losing back-to-back games by 20+ for the first time since the 1940s). They believe the focus should be on the 23-point deficit, not "tough love" theatrics. Misterfouroneone keeping it 100: Accountability is key, but when you're getting doubled up on the scoreboard, ejecting your own player looks more like a "white flag" than a "teaching moment." #fairuse #foryoupage #411SPORTSWORLD #Misterfouroneone #MickCronin
Lonzo Ball’s rookie year didn’t just turn heads — it rewired how we think about a pass-first point guard changing a franchise overnight. Selected 2nd overall in the star-studded 2017 NBA Draft after leading the entire NCAA in assists at UCLA, Lonzo stepped onto the Lakers roster with a spotlight most rookies never survive. This clip runs through a string of highlights from that unforgettable 2017-18 campaign — full-speed drives past Detroit’s Andre Drummond and Tobias Harris, a slick handle against Dejounte Murray and the Spurs, a buzzer beater at Oracle Arena against the Warriors, and downhill attacks versus the Kings and Hornets. Every possession shows a different layer of his game. What made Lonzo’s rookie season significant wasn’t just the highlight-reel dimes — it was the immediate impact on winning basketball. He became the youngest player in NBA history to record a triple-double, and by the end of the year he’d racked up multiple triple-doubles as a 20-year-old floor general, something only a handful of rookies had ever done. His court vision, size for the position, and willingness to push pace instantly changed how the Lakers played, giving Los Angeles its first true modern point guard prospect since the Kobe era wound down. For a franchise starving for direction, Lonzo represented the first real building block of a young core. Basketball-wise, Lonzo’s game has always been about processing speed. He reads the floor a step ahead of everyone else, delivers passes at odd angles most guards wouldn’t attempt, and plays with a controlled unselfishness that elevates teammates around him. His unconventional shooting mechanics drew constant criticism, but his defensive instincts, rebounding for his position, and feel for the game made him a matchup problem regardless. Watching this rookie-year footage is a reminder of just how much promise he flashed before injuries complicated his career path — and why so many fans still talk about “what could’ve been.” Follow us @sportfoundry_ for more sports content! 🏀🔥 #LonzoBall #Lakers #NBA #Basketball #NBAEdits
