Let me introduce you to Madison (12U). When Madison and I first started training together a while back, I knew immediately how hungry she is. We set goals together that she continues to surpass. This girl LOVES serving, so we set the goals of 1) Fast, 2) Flat, 3) Float - DO YOU SEE THESE SERVES?! How’d we get here? ⬇️ 1. Lift control. We start with a slight bend in the elbow and wrist to avoid lifting the ball backwards. 2. Shorter Step. We noticed her lift was consistent, but her first step was putting her past the ball. 3. HIPS! Use your hips and core to help generate power, not just your shoulder or just your core. First step is direction, drag step is power. 4. Hand-To-Ball. Once we found lift and step rhythm, we worked on nailing center-center on the ball, with a large hand and firm wrist. 5. Punch, Not Slap. Again with hand to ball, we worked a lot on making sure we’re hearing a Punch, or Thud, sound rather than a Slap, or Splat, sound. 6. FINISH! Freeze that palm as if you’re shooting a laser out of it. So I think on Sundays, I’m just going to take a moment to give shout out to folks! If you’re kicking butt, if you’re doing ya thang, I’m gonna shout out! — So I gotta give a shout out to these three! They did their thang in Reno and finished up a great high school career! Really proud of the progress I have seen out of all three of them. Can’t wait to get back to action! — Get some rest, y’all deserve it! And make sure you do well on your tests!
