47–53: Senate Rejects War Powers Resolution as Fetterman Breaks with Dems, Rand Paul with GOP The Senate just sent a loud message on President Trump’s authority over Iran — and two senators crossed party lines to do it. A War Powers resolution meant to limit Trump’s power to act on Iran failed 47–53 in the U.S. Senate. The vote mostly followed party lines, but there were two big exceptions. #WarPowers #USSenate #DonaldTrump #JohnFetterman #RandPaul #Iran #CommanderInChief #NationalSecurity #ForeignPolicy #SenateVote #USPolitics
A U.S. trade court has ruled that companies which paid tariffs under Trump’s emergency trade policy must now be refunded after the Supreme Court declared those tariffs illegal. The tariffs were imposed using a 1977 emergency powers law, but the Supreme Court said that law does not give the president the authority to impose taxes or tariffs—because constitutionally, that power belongs to Congress. Now the court has ordered U.S. Customs to start processing refunds for companies that paid those duties, which could total over $100–175 billion. This means thousands of businesses that paid extra import taxes may now get their money back with interest. But the bigger political question is this: If a president can’t use emergency powers to impose tariffs… **how much economic power should the White House actually have?** #ustariffs #trumptariffs #ussenate #americannews

Oklahoma Republican Alan Armstrong was sworn into the Senate on Tuesday to fill the seat of Markwayne Mullin, who resigned Monday to become the new Homeland Security secretary. Gov. Kevin Stitt (R-OK) officially announced the energy executive’s selection at a press conference in Oklahoma City earlier in the day. “Alan’s story, as you guys get to know him, reflects the very best of Oklahoma — our values, our work ethic, and our pursuit of the American dream that is alive and well in the state of Oklahoma,” the governor said. Sen. Armstrong, whom Gov. Stitt described as a “strong business leader” who believes in “free markets and limited government,” was most recently the executive chair of Williams Companies, a natural gas company based in Tulsa, where he had worked for four decades, including as president and CEO. “This was definitely a tough decision on one hand,” he said of his appointment. “But on the other hand, it was kind of a no-brainer, because I really wouldn’t want to be sitting around in my retirement thinking, ‘gosh, I could’ve contributed and done something.’” He will serve in the seat until a successor is elected in November in a special election. Rep. Kevin Hern (R-OK) is the favorite to succeed him, having won President Trump’s endorsement days after announcing his bid earlier this month.
