Spend: 1) Tires - go tubeless and make sure to get the tread pattern that works for your riding. Sometime that more aggressive tread isn’t what you actually need. 2) Shoes - I started on vans and Dunks… MTB specific shoes make a difference, not just in grip, but the solid platform for pedaling. 3) Grips and pedals - these are subjective, but get a good pair of grips with the right thickness. Thick grips are a must for me. Same with pedals. Lots of good options, but make sure you know if you want concave or convex, alloy or nylon, etc. Lots of affordable options too! 4) basic tools - Allen and torx wrenches, torque wrench, flat repair, pump, and shock pump cover 90% of what you’ll need. 5) Heltmet and protective gear - some guys don’t ride with knee pads… I want some… but spend money getting the helmet that fits you best. Do some research before pulling the trigger. I wish I hadn’t bought either of mine bc they don’t fit great. Bonus) dropper post if you don’t have one. Don’t Spend 1) Color matching stuff before you’ve taken care of essentials. 2) handlebars that aren’t to get your geo and cockpit position right. I got high rise bc I’m 6’5”, but I’d spend in other place before doing this for aesthetics. Silver was just $5 more, so I thought “why not?”. If I was shorter, I would’ve stayed stock. 3) Hubs - loud hubs… they’re cool. I want them for the engagement, but these would be low on my list unless you have a use case like needing more spokes or engagement for preference/racing. I’d build a set of wheels before just upgrading hubs. 4) high end shifting… I really want eagle 90 mechanical transmission to shift under load… like really want it… and wireless is clean.. but do this later. A good upgrade, but ride what you got til it explodes first. They all move the chain at the end of the day. 5) Anything that doesn’t serve a purpose. By all means. Swap things, upgrade, and color match while you’re at it… but don’t do it just because. Do it because it will make an improvement that YOU want to see. Ditching the turf since the dogs eventually eat it (like Mila started to) and installing Rugged grip-loc Tiles! The turf would get stinky too so this completely gets rid of any stink, it drains and no more risk of blockages and destruction 🤪 also such a sleek, clean finished look 😍Obsessed 🙌🏻✨ We did Mila’s first but it will carry on into Moana’s kennel as well for all one flush install.. what do ya’ll think!? #upgrades #improvements #americanbullylife #bullykennel #rainorshine
