Most digital footage feels “thin.” Here is how to fix it. To get a true film look, you need texture. I’m talking about that specific weight that comes from grain, halation, and film density. I’m demonstrating how to add that character instantly using the Film Traits tool. If you want clean highlights and deep, textured colors without the manual labor, this is for you. Ever wondered how to turn clean digital footage into something that feels like it was shot decades ago? In this reel I’m transforming modern video into a nostalgic 8mm film look using DaVinci Resolve. The process includes color grading, adding authentic film grain, adjusting contrast, softening the image, and introducing subtle imperfections that make vintage film feel alive. The goal isn’t perfection — it’s character. Dust, grain, flicker, and texture are what give old film that timeless cinematic feel. Watch the full reel to see how digital footage can be pushed to look like classic 8mm film. #filmmaking #davinciresolve #filmlook #8mmfilm #videography

We built a “video store” and shot a commercial for it on a 40 year old camera…👀 We wanted our store and commercial to remind us of why we became filmmakers in the 1st place. We hope that when you come shop with us you’ll feel that passion and also be reminded of what filmmaking is all about! Comment: VSTORE and we’ll DM you our store location and hours 🎬🎥🛍️ Keep it in camera with @prismlensfx #filmmaker #filmmaking #nostalgia #cinematography

The Magic of Film…
If your film look is just grain and halation, you missed the point. Products + Masterclass linked in bio! Most people think grading digital footage “like film” means making it look old.Add grain. Add halation. Lower contrast. Done. That’s not film. That’s styling. Real film looks are built on behavior, not effects. Film stocks like 250D are still used today because of how they handle light and color: dense but controlled colors, soft highlight roll-off instead of clipping, skin tones that feel printed rather than emitted, shadows that feel present instead of hollow, and a natural glow that comes from exposure, not filters, and much more. That foundation is what makes film feel timeless. The advantage we have today is control. Digital lets us keep those film characteristics while using modern tools like masks, noise control, and selective shaping to guide attention, add depth, and solve problems film never could. Especially in fast, uncontrolled, or documentary-style situations. The goal isn’t to imitate film. It’s to embed its behavior into the image, then use digital flexibility to serve the story. That’s what a modern film look is to me. Every clip in this carousel was built using my 250D LUT, combined with my full grading system. If you want to learn how I combine real film behavior with modern control, and grade using the same system I do, you can get my PowerGrade at the link in bio. Every tier includes my nearly 2-hour Masterclass. Link in bio. 🚀
