Business major James Feeks ’26 wasn’t sure if the Meet the Press Fellowship was really for him, until JCU alum Tate Farinacci ’25 showed him it could be. With guidance from Tate and support from faculty, James got hands-on experience, sharpened his skills, and learned what it takes to dive into journalism and politics with confidence, and soon he’ll take that experience to Washington, D.C., working behind the scenes at NBC’s Meet the Press in the nation’s capital 🇺🇸 #OnwardOn

🎥👏🏾 A big thank you to Stephanie Linton and the Hearst team for visiting SJGC! They spent time interviewing students, hosting an insightful panel discussion and offering valuable feedback during a critique of our FAMU TV-20 Live at 5 newscast. 📰📺 Their visit gave students a firsthand look at what it takes to succeed in today’s media industry. Broadcast journalism students Roni Graham and Isaiah Clayborn also shared their experiences interviewing with Hearst recruiters and what opportunities like this mean for their future careers. 🎤✨ We truly appreciate Stephanie Linton and the Hearst team for investing their time, knowledge, and support into our students. Opportunities like these make a lasting impact! #FAMUSJGC #HearstMedia #BuildingNextGenerationOfStorytellers #BroadcastJournalism #StudentSuccess

WINNING!🏆✨ The future looks bright with these RISING STARS! This Saturday I had the honor to emcee the 2026 Student Production Awards @scadshowatl . At the @southeastemmy Student Production Awards, the focus was on the next generation—young storytellers across the Southeast already doing powerful work in journalism, filmmaking, and broadcasting. And somewhere in the middle of celebrating them… I found myself reflecting on my own journey. I got emotional answering a simple question: what would I tell little Sharon? Don’t give up. Don’t wait for permission. Chart your own path. Be the author of your story—and the architect of your life. Watching these students step into their purpose… it’s clear the future of this industry isn’t coming—it’s already here!!!🎉❤️🙌🏾🤩 Congratulations to all the nominees and winners!🙌🏾🎉👏🏾 Always great being in the company of my other broadcast colleagues including @cbsnewsatlanta family~ @srcrenshaw & @alxsnz ! See you next year!✨🎉 🏆

Hi friends! My Alma Mater just posted this cool video taking you on a journey through the school newsroom! I loved my time there, learning so much about becoming passionate on social issues. Writing eloquently and learning how to cover the news properly. While anyone who majors in broadcast journalism always has to learn the basics of terminology, sentence structure, source checking and leadership skills, I found something even more valuable. You get to be a part of a group, finding purpose, friendship, responsibility and personal growth in real time. The video will give you all those details. It’s completely student run and overseen by Professor Tammy Trujillo. She has worked for some of Southern California’s biggest stations, including KNX, KFI, and she anchors for NBC Radio. Yes, many of our professors are still full time members of the business, AND THEY STILL TEACH! With Tammy and my classmates help, I found out who I am and who I wanted to be, not as a journalist but as a PERSON! I use the time I spent there in some capacity in my personal life, every day. They do a tremendous job of nurturing each students passion, and help the ones who aren’t sure where they want to go. It was natural for me to become very close with all involved. Especially with the intimacy of relying on each other while on air. If you are a parent of a high school teen, or young adult who wants to change things up, look into broadcast journalism. Especially if you love storytelling, finding real authentic connection.
