At Fifth Avenue Committee, we believe that healthy living is about more than just a single meal—it’s about having a support system. Through our partnership with @wearephsny WholeYouNYC Social Care Network, we are making it easier for our tenants and participants who are Medicaid members to navigate the resources they need most. This includes everything from housing and transportation to food assistance. A key part of this mission is empowerment through education. In our recent Health and Nutrition workshop series, held in collaboration with Cornell University Cooperative Extension, participants mastered the skills to: ✅ Prepare nutritious recipes on a budget ✅ Read and understand food labels ✅ Practice food safety for healthy living ✅ Check your eligibility today: 🤳 Contact our hotline at 718-237-2017 x165

Prescription Pantry: Food as medicine Access to healthy food can make a big difference in managing chronic conditions. That’s the idea behind the Prescription Pantry program from the @foodbanknn, which we’re highlighting in the final video of our 3-part series on initiatives in the 2022–2025 Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). Through this program, medical professionals screen patients for food insecurity and can prescribe healthy foods to help manage conditions such as diabetes and heart disease. Patients are then connected with participating pantries to access the nutritious foods they need. During this CHIP year, at least 40,000 people have received food through Prescription Pantry, helping improve access to healthy food and support better health in our community. We hope you enjoyed learning about the work happening through the CHIP to improve health in Washoe County. We’re currently working on the Community Health Assessment, which will help guide initiatives in the next 2026-2029 CHIP. Stay tuned! 💙 Video Description: Sonya Hernandez from the Food Bank of Northern Nevada speaks to the camera about the Prescription Pantry program. The video cuts to scenes from one of the pantries showing the outside and inside of the pantry. Soft music plays in the background.
Wrapping up #NutritionMonth: Access to healthy food isn’t a luxury—it’s a right. Many people think food banks only provide canned goods, but the truth is that nutritious food matters. Everyone deserves access to healthy options, including foods that meet dietary needs. Last year alone, we distributed 9.6 million pounds of fresh, frozen, and non-perishable food to families across Waterloo region 💛 Help make nutritious food accessible to everyone—like, share, or comment to spread the word, and support your local food bank today 🤳

🚨 Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers says he plans to sign a new bipartisan bill changing what can be purchased with SNAP benefits. The legislation would ban FoodShare recipients from using benefits to buy candy, soda, and energy drinks, with the policy taking effect after federal approval and system updates. Lawmakers say the goal is to encourage healthier food choices among recipients. The bill passed both chambers of the Wisconsin Legislature on March 17, and includes funding for the state’s Department of Health Services to implement the changes. More than 700,000 Wisconsin residents, including hundreds of thousands of children, rely on the program. Supporters say the move targets nutrition and long-term health outcomes, while critics raise concerns about access and how the policy could affect low-income families. Do you think restrictions like this are the right approach? 👇 #Wisconsin #SNAP #FoodPolicy #PublicHealth #Breaking #USNews
