March is Mass Micromobility Month! 🚲🛴🛵🛹 Micromobility devices are usually small, affordable, and sometimes shared transportation options used for short trips. This includes bikes, e-bikes, scooters, mopeds, rollerblades, skateboards, and other low-speed devices that help people move efficiently through their communities. In Massachusetts, micromobility expands access to jobs, schools, and local businesses. It supports cleaner air, reduces congestion, and gives residents flexible options for getting around. Throughout this month, we’ll be sharing resident stories, data, fun facts, and projects that highlight how #MassMicromobility is transforming transportation across the Commonwealth.
Last week I discussed the reason why sponsors would want to participate. This week I wanted you to know more about what the participants experienced. Keep an eye out for the next cycle. #mobility #mobilityminute #transportation
Study: Done ✅... but what's next? The Cherriots Board of Directors has officially accepted the final Shared Micromobility Study. Over the last year, we’ve worked to find the best ways to bring micromobility (bikes, scooters, etc.) to the Salem-Keizer region. 80% of you said you're on board! ➡️What’s next? Cherriots Board of Directors will review the recommendations and determine a real-world strategy that we might be able to implement. We’re one step closer to bridging the gap between your front door and your transit stop. #SharedMicromobility #PublicTransit #Mobility #SalemOregon
Micromobility depends on safe, connected infrastructure. Across Massachusetts, shared-use paths like the Mass Central Rail Trail (MCRT) are helping build that network. When complete, the MCRT will stretch over 100 miles and connect 27 communities from #Northampton to #Boston, transforming historic rail corridors into routes for active transportation and micromobility. With more than 60 miles already complete and additional sections underway, these paths are helping connect communities across the Commonwealth. Interested in helping projects like this move forward? Visit the MassTrails Grant Program website to learn which funding opportunities support trail development and improvements along the MCRT and across Massachusetts.
If I had sponsorship dollars to spend this year, this is how I would spend it. I have tried many times to express even a snippet of what the experience was at the new Shared-Use Mobility Center summit last year, and one just doesn't do it justice. I will explain more in coming weeks. But for now, the participating cities have already been chosen this year. SPONSORS: now is your time to engage. Ask me why it's worth your budget. #MobilityMinute #mobility #Transportation
Micromobility use in the United States is growing every day. In 2023, 133 million shared bike and scooter trips were recorded across US cities, according to @nactocities. Massachusetts is a part of this growth. In 2024, 4.7 million trips were taken on Bluebikes, a 28% increase from 2023 to 2024. The system is also expanding, between 2024 and 2025, 110 new Bluebikes stations were added across Greater Boston, a 22% increase in docks. Most Bluebikes trips are short and efficient. Together, these trips and system growth show how residents are reaching work, schools, and local businesses across Greater Boston every day. Stay tuned for information about other bikeshare systems across the commonwealth *NACTO figures reflect the most recent available national shared micromobility data at the time of publication (2023).
