This makes us want to go back to school! Check out these awesome props from @northernbuiltpro’s Retrofit Installers course taught with Rachel Wagner. They spent 40 hours teaching students all about weatherization best practices up in northern Minnesota #KeepCraftAlive
You’re doing this wrong. So this is actually something I’d been doing wrong for years and never knew this until recently. But when applying spray foam the can should be inverted to allow the propellant or gas to properly push out the foam ingredients to ensure that the foam comes out at a consistent rate. I’d hold it right side up not realizing the flow was inconsistent because it was in essence upside down. 🤯 In my latest YouTube video I talk about this. Check it out. Now, Tell me the truth. How many people knew this was the correct way to hold the can when applying spray foam? #toolboxdivas #letsgetdirty #diytips #tipoftheday #sprayfoam #gesealantspartner #gesealants #gefoam #weatherization #winterization #insulation
How to install insulation. Great job!!!
AD: This little nook in our kitchen is my favorite spot in the house especially after the first snowfall, BUT the draft from outside can make it SO COLD! So when I found out @theduckbrand had a new window insulation kit to weatherize our home, I knew it was exactly what we needed! I’ve never lived in a cold winter climate, so I wanted something inexpensive and easily diy-able to help protect our home from the elements, and this kit was the perfect solution. A couple reason why I’ve loved this product so far… 1. The film is so clear! After a quick blow dry the wrinkles disappeared and didn’t take away from the view at all! 2. The film is thick but flexible so it instantly made the cold nook warmer for our morning coffee! 3. The cold draft always kept our entire kitchen freezing, but by weatherizing such a large section of windows the kitchen stays warm and I know we’ll be saving so much energy! If you need to weatherize your home this winter, I highly recommend the Duck® Max Strength® Brand Rolled Window Insulation Kit! #duckbrand #weatherization #weatherizeinaweekend #coldweather #cozyweather #insulation #kitchennook https://www.duckbrand.com/products/weatherization/window-insulation-kits/clear-84-in-x-120-in
Spray Foam Insulation: Ultimate Thermal Efficiency & Satisfying Trimming! 🏠❄️ Observe the seamless application and precision finishing of Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) insulation! This is one of the most effective modern methods for creating a thermal envelope in buildings, far surpassing traditional fiberglass in air-sealing capabilities. The Science of Expanding Insulation This process involves complex chemistry and physical labor to ensure maximum energy efficiency: The Application: The video highlights the two distinct phases of the job—application and finishing. The Expansion: When the chemical mixture involves isocyanate and resin, it reacts immediately upon hitting the surface. The foam expands rapidly (up to 100 times its original volume), filling every tiny crack, gap, and void between the studs. This creates an airtight seal that prevents drafts and moisture intrusion. Precision Scarfing (0:00 - 0:15): Because the foam expands so aggressively, it often overfills the wall cavity. This is where the satisfying part happens! Workers use a specialized pneumatic or electric rotary planer (often called a "scarfer") to slice through the excess cured foam. Flush Finish: This trimming process shaves the foam down perfectly flush with the wooden studs. This step is critical so that drywall or other wall coverings can be installed flat against the framing without bowing. The Result: A monolithic insulation barrier that provides a superior R-value, drastically reducing heating and cooling costs while strengthening the building structure. This combination of chemical engineering and skilled application is what keeps modern homes comfortable in extreme weather! Have you ever used spray foam in a project, or do you stick to traditional rolls? Cleanest way to cut PIR With it Raining outside I Wanted to cut the Insulation inside So used the Dewalt Plunge saw with the Powerful Dewalt M class Extractor Dust free Cutting with nice crisp cuts, making a perfect Fit. Do you think Gapo Tape is still needed if Insulation is fitted this tight? Now we need a plunge Saw that will cut 150mm boards That would be a game changer, don’t you think. #insulation #homeimprovement #carpenter #newbuild #dewalt

Air sealing verification in action! 🔎💨 These guys knew this spot needed sealing, but the canned foam didn’t cut it. We don’t want garage air sneaking into the living space! Running a test with my Airtracer to make sure the job gets done right. ✅ #airsealing #homeperformance #energyefficiency #buildingscience #hvac #healthyhome #blowerdoortest #weatherization #smarthomes #indoorairquality #homeimprovement
