👉 EAT every doc:
Evidence — what the doc is saying
Analysis — how it supports your argument
Tie it back — link it clearly to your thesis
HIPP docs for analysis:
Historical context — what’s happening around the time
Intended audience — who it was meant for
Purpose — why it was created
Point of view — what biases or perspectives it shows
Don’t just mention these — explain why they matter. Say stuff like “This matters because...” to lock in the point.
ALSO 1 doc = 1 paragraph
Intro = context + thesis
1 outside evidence is free real estate if you’ve reviewed
Save complexity for the end if you have time — it’s the unicorn point 🦄

During the age of the Scientific Revolution (1500s-1600s), various scientific and intellectual discoveries were made and published. One of the most profound discoveries was the Sun as the center of the universe, which was known as the heliocentric model. This model clashed with the long-believed geocentric model that positioned Earth as the center of the universe. The Catholic Church had buttressed the geocentric model for years, as such a model followed through with the Church’s teachings that God had created everything with great precision and intent, and that humans were the most important figures in existence. The heliocentric model, however, was grounded in continuous observation and laws of physics. Still, the Catholic Church continued to cling to the geocentric model, so much so that the Roman Inquisition of the Church placed Galileo Galilei under house arrest for heresy after he publicly defended the heliocentric model in 1632. Further scientific discoveries continued to challenge the Catholic Church’s previous beliefs about the world, which contributed to its decline during this period.

The Suez Canal Crisis (1956) spurred from Egypt’s nationalization of the Suez Canal under President Gamal Abder Nasser, effectively putting Egypt in complete control of the canal. Nasser did this because he viewed French and British control of the canal as a form of imperialism and unwanted Western influence in Egypt; however, this angered Britain and France, as they previously owned the Suez Canal and were essentially kicked out of it by Egypt’s nationalization. Israel, which sought vengeance against Egypt for placing a blockade on the Strait of Tiran—which prevented Israeli shipping—and held a dislike for Egypt for general Israeli-Arab tensions, saw an opportunity to work with Britain and France to regain Western control of the Suez Canal and to push Nasser out of power. This resulted in the Israeli-British-French coalition invasion of Egypt. However, the U.S., despite being allied with Britain and France during the time due to Cold War policies, publicly condemned this invasion and urged the coalition to pull out from Egypt. This was because the U.S. feared Egypt would view the invasion as an act of imperialism and would turn to the Soviet Union for aid/support. The Soviet Union joined the U.S. in this public condemnation. The UN even called for an immediate ceasefire. Pressured by the U.S., Soviet Union, and the UN, the coalition withdrew, and Egypt was viewed as the victor of this conflict. This highlighted France and Britain’s waning global influence and power, while underscoring the U.S. and Soviet Union’s rise to global power.
