One favorite moment for Brooke and Ashkan was Willem de Kooning’s ‘Collage’ from the David M. Solinger collection, which sold for $33.6 million and set a new auction record for a de Kooning work on paper.

Introducing ‘DE KOONING | DECADES,’ three superlative masterworks from the de Kooning Family Collection, set to make their auction debut at #SothebysNewYork this November. Step inside the painter’s home and studio in East Hampton.
Each of these works, ‘Montauk II’ from 1969, ‘Untitled’, c. 1979, and ‘The Hat Upstairs’ from 1987, marks the culmination of a pivotal decade in de Kooning’s life and work. Ultimately, ‘DE KOONING | DECADES’ traces the evolution of the artist’s practice from the late 1960s to the late 1980s.
Consigned directly from the de Kooning Family Collection, these paintings were personally selected by the artist’s daughter, Lisa de Kooning, for her collection, recognizing each as the among the best of her father’s work.
All three works were painted in de Kooning’s self-designed home and studio in East Hampton – a deeply influential and private, rarely-seen oasis where the artist lived and worked starting in the 1960s until his death in 1997.
