#workoftheweek - 𝗭𝗮𝗼 𝗪𝗼𝘂-𝗞𝗶, 18.10.76, 1976 Painted in October 1976, this masterpiece by Zao Wou-Ki showcases his unique fusion of Eastern and Western influences, creating a distinctive Post-War abstract language. Trained in traditional Chinese calligraphy before embracing Western modernism, Zao’s return to China in 1972 rekindled his roots. The painting, with dynamic gold and emerald brushstrokes reminiscent of Song Dynasty landscapes, invites viewers to explore the artist’s technique, emphasizing process over outcome, harmonizing Eastern traditions and Western practices. #WorkOfTheWeek ‘Maybe this is a utopian view of art but I do believe that art can function as a vehicle, that is isn’t just a cultural pursuit, something that happens in art galleries. Unless art is linked to experience and the fear and the joy of that, it becomes mere icing on the cake.’ Antony Gormley Antony Gormley is best known for large public projects, often using his own or others’ bodies as subject matter. His most famous work is the 20-metre steel sculpture, Angel of the North  1994–98, situated near a motorway in northern England on the site of a disused colliery. Our Angel of the North (Life-size maquette), is a 1:10 model of the larger work, made of cast iron rather than steel. Visit our angel any day of the week.
