The word “bad” varies depending on the person so I divided them up from my point of view: 𝟭. 𝗕𝗮𝗱 𝗟𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗿: slides/presentations are messy, incoherent & constantly reads off the slides/poor presenter ▫️skip class - unpopular opinion but I’d rather skip out on a class that I learn nothing in than waste my time sitting in that class ▫️use that time then to learn from khan academy, udemy & yt videos on your own. there is always that one Indian dude online who knows what’s good 😉 ▫️form study groups & learn together ▫️go to labs & ask help from TAs who have a closer relationship w. profs & can give you a better idea of what to expect on the exam 🌱a prof who did their entire PhD on a subject is EXPECTED to know more than you. you’re just a beginner. don’t let imposter syndrome take over you 𝟮. 𝗣𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿: tests do not reflect the class material at all, unnecessarily hard ▫️go to office hours, ask them what they expect from that day’s class. a lot of profs are more approachable this way ▫️ask to review your exams; ask for an answer key & ask them to explain why you lost marks. for assignments, ask for feedback/rubric b/c that’s the only way you’ll know what to do for next time 🌱you are paying for your education. you have every right to demand a proper evaluation of your work 𝟯. 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿: gives countless assignments, tests, & quizzes ▫️organize your schedule weekly to accommodate this prof’s needs. try not to fall behind ▫️split class readings w. friends. share each other’s notes on the readings 🌱it’s okay to fall behind & do your work last min. sh*t happens. forgive yourself 𝟰. 𝗥𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗢𝗻𝗲: unnecessarily rude, condescending, and inflexible ▫️leave negative year-end evaluations; faculty goes through them & takes it seriously; although this may not help you immediately, it will help future students ▫️in worse cases, go to the higher-ups 🌱i had a prof who made a calculation error & instead of an 85 gave me an 82, she just said sorry deal with it. I had to take her to the dean for her to change my grade. yes, profs are lazy and insane. don’t let that shake you up. know that you deserve what you work for 🌷
