Do you want density — or displacement? #urbanplanning #zoning #housing #yimby #walkablecity
Let’s talk about it. NIMBYism in urban neighborhoods. #nimby #yimby #housing #losangeles #california
New York is not full. Build housing now.

Outlaw strip malls! You can’t just allow good buildings to get built and then hope for the best — you also have to stop bad buildings. Here’s how one city put their foot down and is saying NO to more strip malls.
We all love some of the shops and services in strip malls. (Don’t worry, they’ll be with us for at least another century!) But Ann Arbor knew that single-story developments with big parking lots out front were simply bad for the city’s future. These properties don’t pay their fair share of taxes, they create lots of dangerous and polluting car trips, they are bad for transit ridership, and they crowd out housing opportunities. So Ann Arbor decided to create a new zoning district called “TC1” that mandated a minimum of two stories and capped parking next to many transit routes. This stops the worst-of-the-worst land uses. They also allowed buildings to get taller as they move away from single-family residential, a political necessity.
But if we want truly walkable corridor, someday, we have to make sure that the roads next to these potential new neighborhoods are slow, safe, and interesting to walk along. And there needs to be at least some retail!

Too often we hear people say “Not in my backyard” when it comes to welcoming new neighbors into our communities. Thank you to the Desert Dove congregation and community for saying YES in God’s Backyard and allowing 64 families to call this place home. Thank you Tucson and Pima County leaders. Let’s keep this momentum going statewide to address the affordable housing shortage and help all Arizonans thrive. #yimby #arizona #azhousing #azyimby
I’m proud of the thousands of affordable homes that have been built in San Francisco and across the state under my housing laws. Each home we build means more opportunity for people to afford to live here, and fewer people at risk of homelessness.

How do we solve the housing crisis and build more homes in California? How do we lower rents and commute times? How do we make home ownership more attainable for millennials and Gen Z?
We have to aggressive and tactical about meeting this challenge. This past week I provided expert testimony on @scott_wiener SB 79 to make transit oriented development easier. Yes, we need more housing. Yes, even in my own back yard. This was a focus of mine as Mayor and will continue to be as Lt. Gov. Every Californian should be able to find housing that they can afford! #yimby #upsetthesetup #Tubbs2026 #TubbsforLG
🚨 Tell LA City Council not to sabotage SB79! 🚨
LA’s biggest housing reform in a generation is under attack from HOAs and anti-housing activist groups.
LA City Council votes Tuesday on how to implement SB79, a state housing bill legalizing apartments near transit stops, and is being pressured by NIMBYs to sabotage implementation by choosing an option unlikely to produce any significant amount of housing. This would fly in the face of the desires of most residents; LA’s catastrophic housing shortage has made it one of he city’s least affordable places for renters or homebuyers and LA residents list housing costs are a top quality of life issue.
Use the link in our bio to contact your city council member today - it takes just a few seconds. And Tuesday we will be speaking up in person at city hall - come join us to tell the city directly that we want real solutions to housing crisis, not more bad-faith obstruction while residents suffer every day.
