FULL GUIDE ⬇️If you love Harry Potter you need to visit… York! Just a 2 hour train ride away from London! Here’s what to do⤵️ - take a FREE walking tour of the city (they even have witch themed tours) - Tour the York Minister- more stained glass in this cathedral then all of Britain combined! They even have this own police force - Walk down the shambles and pop into the medieval shops. You can even get your own ghost if you’re not frightened off (like I was) of the queue (wait time of 4+ hours) at the York ghost merchant shop where each handmade ghost comes with a spirit. - Visit the Jorvik museum for Viking history - Check out the National Railway museum (it’s free!) - Visit Clifford’s Tower and see how William the Conqueror took over York from the Vikings - The York Castle museum gives a good overview of the city’s history - There are so many great pubs! Josie of Trembling Madness is a must and I loved the Old White Swan - Castle Howard is not too far and is absolutely glorious! - Take a night time ghost tour to hear the rough history of York - York is well known for its chocolate so go on a chocolate tour - I recommend Terry’s and Rowntree’s - Check out Holy Trinity church- it’s lovely and less busy - Walk the city walls! We spent the weekend getting lost in the cobblestone streets, and there’s a specific kind of magic here that you won’t find anywhere else in the UK It’s not just about the old buildings..it’s the cozy feeling of the narrow streets and the sound of the buskers echoing through every corner 🫶🏻 Our personal highlights from the weekend: 🕯️ Living our Heritage Era: Staying at Hotel du Vin felt like being part of the city’s history. It’s a 19th-century gem and the perfect cozy retreat after a long day of walking 🧙Exploring The Shambles: We headed straight to The Shambles area first thing. Exploring those leaning timber buildings and narrow alleys was easily the highlight of our trip. It truly feels like a movie set! 🍫 The Viral Treat: You can’t leave York without trying the viral chocolate shots at Monk Bar Chocolatiers. Yes, you can eat the cup, and yes, it’s just as rich and delicious as it looks on TikTok! 🥘 The Foodie Surprise: Our favorite meal wasn’t traditional British food, but the incredible Nepalese flavors at Everest Gurkha. If you go, you have to try the Momos York, you have our hearts.
