As ABC staff walked out to take part in industrial action at 11am AEDT Wednesday, the impact was immediate: the ABC’s 24-hour news channel – which promises “the latest breaking and rolling news coverage” – switched to a feed from Britain’s public broadcaster, the BBC. Here’s why @abcnews_au is taking @bbcnews today. And - as a former presenter, reporter and producer for the ABC - here is my two cents. I firmly believe that people need to be able to access news from multiple outlets to form their own opinions and view on what’s happening in our nation and our world. It’s up to the ABC executive management team to further invest in its staff now. We don’t need less reliable news sources, we need more - right across tax payer funded and commercial newsrooms. IMPORTANT: the ABC’s Emergency Broadcasting service is NOT affected by today’s industrial action.

ABC staff have walked off the job in Adelaide after a collapse of pay negotiations with management, with some screens switching to feeds from the BBC. The 24-hour strike means there will be no 7pm news bulletin on the national broadcaster tonight and certain programs have been replaced with old re-runs.
For the first time in 20 years, ABC journalists have gone on strike starting a 24 hour stop work at 11am today.
Hundreds of staff from the ABC's Southbank office in Melbourne walked off the job for a 24-hour strike, forcing ABC services across TV, radio and digital to use BBC News content and repeat programming. Melbourne-based ABC journalist Daniel Ziffer said staff were striking because they have seen 'real cuts to real wages'
The ABC TV 7pm news.. not on air. Don’t think I’ve seen this before. ABC staff are on strike taking protected industrial action amid enterprise bargaining talks.
Hundreds of Australian Broadcasting Corporation staff staged their first strike in 20 years, disrupting live news coverage. Programs were replaced with BBC content as workers protested pay and conditions. Unions rejected a 10% raise over three years, calling it below inflation and lacking job security. Around 1,000 staff backed the action, demanding fair wages and better conditions, while management called the offer reasonable. #BreakingNews #abcstrike #australianews #MediaIndustry #WorkersRights #paydispute #journalism #BBC #LaborNews #GlobalNews
BBC broadcasting on ABC News Channel, while simultaneously reporting on the ABC staff strike that’s forced Aunty’s execs to take the Beeb live... this is irony on another level 🤯
Australia: ABC Staff Strike, First in 20 Years 🚨 For the first time in two decades, over 75% of Australia's ABC staff have initiated a 24-hour strike. This action is expected to cause significant disruption to the public broadcaster's news and current affairs programming. The union has cited below-inflation pay rises and concerns over insecure work as the primary drivers behind this industrial action. Union representatives argue that these conditions pose a significant threat to the future of Australia’s public-interest journalism. This 24-hour stoppage, which includes producers, camera operators, and directors, is expected to severely disrupt live television and radio broadcasts, including the prime-time current affairs flagship '7.30.' It represents the first time ABC staff have engaged in such widespread striking in two decades, underscoring the severity of the long-standing disputes. #ABCStrike #AustraliaNews #PublicBroadcaster #MediaIndustry News by InfactoWeaver #News #Headlines #InfactoWeaver #NewsHeadlines #shorts #NewsUpdates #Reel
