Here is how I take care of cold sores! I’m not stoked that I have one literally the day before I return to work from maternity leave, and I’m especially not stoked that I’m not allowed to use Abreva while I’m breastfeeding. What a cold sore is and why it happens isn’t my area of expertise, but it is a wound, and I ended up getting a cold sore in school while learning about wound care, so I’ve applied that knowledge to the sores ever since and it really quickens the healing process while making it less scabbed over (and less embarrassing for me). 1. First, clean the wound with soapy water. 2. Apply Abreva, or an ointment that helps the wound’s healing process. 3. Add in moisture by patting a simple moisturizer on top (I use CeraVe). 4. Seal in the wound with a hydrocolloid bandage or an occlusive like petroleum jelly (vaseline or aquaphor work). You can use the above steps for other wounds as well, unless they’re incredibly serious, then you should see a doctor. Maybe you’ll end up with a PT or PTA helping to dress the wound (let’s hope it never gets that bad though lol). Save this or share it with a friend who struggles! Cold sore are not fun, and I will be hiding my face with a mask for the next few weeks, but luckily they do go away eventually. Good luck 🖤 #coldsores#abreva#woundhealing
