Luca Trapanese is a single dad from Italy who became widely known after adopting a baby girl named Alba, who has Down syndrome and had been rejected by more than 20 families. Alba’s biological mother gave her up shortly after birth, and many prospective adoptive parents declined because of her condition. Luca, who had spent years volunteering with people with disabilities, had always wanted to be a father, and when Italian adoption laws changed in 2017 to allow single people to adopt, he was finally able to apply.
When the court called him about Alba, he immediately said yes and rushed to meet her at the hospital. He felt an instant bond and knew she was meant to be his daughter. Today, Luca and Alba share a joyful life together, and their story has inspired millions by showing how love, not perfection, is what truly makes a family.

My adoptive father can’t walk well anymore, so now I carry him — the same way he once carried me.
Daniel adopted me when I was just two years old, and the backlash came fast. Some relatives said it was a mistake. Visits stopped. Help never came. With no car and no support system, Daniel didn’t quit — he simply picked me up and carried me wherever we needed to go.
Years passed, and life slowly came full circle.
Daniel’s legs grew weaker. Leaving the house became harder. The same isolation he once fought to protect me from began closing in on him. I saw the strong, steady man who never gave up starting to fade into the quiet.
So now, on some days, I lift Daniel into my arms and carry him outside — just so we can sit, talk, and feel the world again. People stare, but Daniel smiles. And that smile tells me everything.
The child he carried through rejection is now carrying the man who never walked away. And this time, neither of us is alone.

This parenthood malarkey is a wild ride, right? Side eyed at drop off today and given the 🖕🏼on pickup. love that for us 🫠
As adoptive parents, we know our journey is unique, but the love (and the chaos) is exactly the same as families built through any other path.
Sometimes our kids drive us right up the wall crikey, our two have absolutely nailed it in this house and yeah, I might call them little a-holes in those moments… but it doesn’t change how much we bloody love them.
Perfect parenting IMO 🤣
Anyone else got these lyrics on repeat? 🎶 (I hope so)
Ginger turned one today. Her mum (coincidentally also named Holly, like her adoptive mum in this pic) was rescued while pregnant and the litter of pups all found happy homes. Some things are just meant to be.
As someone who was adopted at a pretty young age but old enough to have memories, I feel like I can confidently say this statement. (I know that a lot of people will think this is sad or insensitive to say out loud.)
But truly to me, my adoptive parents are my real parents. They are the family God chose to put my little brother and I in. That doesn’t mean that I don’t care about my birth parents.
I just view them more as the ones who helped get us on this earth.
Family is more than blood and there’s no ill intent in me by saying that.
Here’s what I do wonder: I wonder who they were and if they are still alive today. I wonder if they regret giving up my brother and I. I wonder if they think of us.
But when someone asks me, “who are your parents?” — it’s the white ones that naturally come to mind 😉

Forever is made of small choices, to keep loving, keep learning, and keep showing up. 💙
To this family: thank you for letting us share a glimpse of your journey. And to everyone on a similar path, foster, adoptive, or kinship, we see the extra miles you walk behind the scenes.

My adoptive father can’t walk well anymore, so now I carry him — the same way he once carried me.
Daniel took me in when I was just two years old, and the fallout came fast. Family members said the adoption was a mistake. Visits stopped. Phone calls went quiet. Help never showed up. Daniel didn’t have a car. He didn’t have backup. What he had was me — and a decision he refused to undo.
So he carried me everywhere.
When buses didn’t come, when rides fell through, when the world made it clear we were on our own, Daniel lifted me into his arms and kept going. He carried me through judgment, through loneliness, through days when giving up would have been easier — but never once did he set me down.
Years passed, and without anyone noticing the exact moment, the roles began to change.
Daniel’s legs grew weak. Steps became slower. Leaving the house felt heavier. The man who once stood tall against everyone’s doubt started disappearing into the walls of a quiet home. And I recognized it instantly — the same isolation Daniel had fought so hard to escape all those years ago, the same loneliness he shielded me from.
I couldn’t let him return there alone.
So now, on some days, I lift Daniel into my arms and carry him outside. Just far enough to feel the air. Just long enough to sit together and talk. Strangers stare. Some look confused. Some look away. But Daniel smiles — the kind of smile I remember from when I was small and safe in his arms.
The child Daniel carried through rejection and silence now carries the man who never walked away.
This time, we don’t lose each other.
This time, we stay connected.

I can’t stop laughing because I love that she called me orange as I’m literally a lizard 🦎
How could I have handled it better? I’m still learning!

🐱 Interesting fact:
The Amazing World of Gumball (2011–2019) — This stylized Cartoon Network series follows the surreal mishaps of Gumball Watterson and his adoptive brother Darwin.
The show’s unique “mismatch” look exists because creator Ben Bocquelet used discarded characters he had designed for various commercials over the years. Rather than trashing them, he put them all in a school setting, which is why the characters range from 2D drawings and 3D CGI to puppets and real-life objects, all interacting in live-action backgrounds.
Tell the truth—what do you really want this boy for? That was the first thing the caseworker asked my adoptive parents. He didn’t believe them. Elliot and Marlene tried for a baby for years. Doctors said it wouldn’t happen. So they went to the community food program. They helped kids. They filled out forms. They tried to adopt again and again. I was nine. I’d been in foster care since birth. No record of my father. My mother left the hospital before I was a day old. I grew up moving place to place with a plastic bag of clothes and a paper bracelet with my birthday on it. They met me when I was stacking milk crates. Elliot asked if I needed help. I said no. Marlene stayed beside me anyway. They came back every weekend. The agency blocked them twice. They didn’t quit. One hot afternoon, the call finally came. They took me home. Thirty years later, I’m Officer Brooks. I’ve got a wife. I’ve got a son. And I know who gave me this life—two hippies who never quit on me. #family #inspiration #fblifestyle
