moraine lake reopens on june 1st for the summer season and it’s only about 3 MONTHS AWAY, which means shuttle reservations are coming soon and will sell out FAST
we booked the 4am sunrise shuttle and yes it was cold, dark, and way too early but it was absolutely worth it.
and while there were still a few people it was quiet, peaceful, and nothing like the crowds that roll in after 9am during peak summer.
so if you’re dreaming of that calm glassy lake, soft golden light, and no photobombers in your shots… go early. here’s how ↓
🚍 book your shuttle early: moraine lake is shuttle only and reservations through parks canada usually open in april and sell out fast especially the sunrise times.
🧤 layer up: even in summer the mornings can be freezing before sunrise so bring a jacket, beanie, and layers.
🔦 bring a headlamp or flashlight: it’s pitch dark when the early shuttles arrive.
☕️ pack a warm drink and snack: makes waiting for sunrise way cozier.
📸 go straight to the rockpile trail: 10 minute walk for that iconic postcard view. you can also keep following the shoreline for higher viewpoints with fewer people.
📆 weekday > weekend: peak summer gets busy fast so weekdays are always calmer.
📌 SAVE this for your summer trip to banff.

Now to Moraine Lake✨🦋
Moraine Lake is located in Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. Tickets to the lake are difficult to obtain, and you’re not able to drive your personal vehicle there between June - October.
How to actually go:🤍
1. Public bus: 40% of the season tickets are available starting April 16 for booking.
2. Public bus: If you missed out on the tickets in option one, then this is your next logical step (what we did)! 60% of the tickets are released 48 hours prior to the bus, at 8:00am MDT. 🚨 We did this and managed to secure 2 tickets for 2 days in advance!
3. Can book a tour through a 3rd party company and get on a tour bus. The downside of this is that you’ll pay for a tour, be on a certain schedule, and may not have the most time to explore and hike.
4. You can ride a bike to the lake, which is about 8 miles one way.
Brendan and I were able to get 2 tickets using the bus system 48 hours in advance.

📍Peyto Lake
@alltrails rating: moderate
🩵 Yes, the lake really is that blue and was so incredible! The color comes from glacier rock flour suspended in the water, and it’s one of the most surreal sights we’ve ever seen.
🚘 How to get there:Just 30 minutes from Lake Louise in Banff National Park off the Icefields Parkway - a bucket list drive itself!
There’s a dedicated parking lot for Peyto Lake and a short paved path to the main platform viewpoint. Come early for fewer crowds!
📸 Pro tips:✔️ Come early or late in the day for fewer crowds✔️ Combine with stops at Lake Louise & Moraine Lake✔️ Bring a wide-angle lens - the viewpoint is expansive✔️ Pack layers - weather can shift quickly, even in summer!

Banff travel tip if you’re planning a trip this year ⛰️
• Right now (early March) is actually the perfect time to start booking your Banff trip for summer or early fall. Hotels, shuttles to Lake Louise, and rental cars start filling up quickly once spring hits.
• Best time to visit:
-> June – September: turquoise lakes, hiking, canoeing, full summer vibe
–>Late September – early October: fall colors + fewer crowds
– Fly into #Calgary International Airport
– Rent a car and drive to Banff (about 1.5 hours)
– The drive itself is stunning once you enter the Rockies
• Lake Louise tip:
– Parking is extremely limited in summer
– Book the Parks Canada shuttle in advance if you plan to visit Lake #Louise and #Moraine Lake
#Banff is honestly one of the most beautiful places in #Canada and it feels unreal the first time you see those turquoise lakes.
No trip to Moraine Lake is ever complete without this view. Still unreal every single time. 🏔️❄️🌊

🚨April 15th at 8am
One of the most photographed and iconic Canadian views, Moraine Lake is a must see when visiting Banff National Park between June - October.
Advance planning and preparing is highly recommended since Park Canada implemented a mandatory shuttle system for visitors, closing roads to private vehicles for safety in 2023.
These shuttle spots are in HIGH DEMAND so make sure to save this post and the date to make sure you get a spot!
Launch Date: April 15, 2026, for the main block of tickets.
Not sure when you’re visiting yet?
Daily Releases: Additional seats are released at 8 a.m. MDT, two days prior to the travel date.
(No guarantees - we had 3 people trying, one got through and only half our group secure tickets.)
Alternative Options:
• Roam Public Transit (Route 10)
• Commercial shuttles and tours (more pricey)
• Staying at the on site hotel (Also more pricey)
