Berggasthaus Aescher is reopening for the season on May 5th, 2025. This marks the end of its winter hibernation period and the mountain inn will welcome guests again starting from that date! ❣️Aescher - Mountain Inn in Switzerland at 1587 meters above sea level, in it’s present form since 1860. ❗️This is one of those places that everyone should visit at least once in a lifetime, because it’s one of the oldest mountain guesthouses in Switzerland. ❣️The location is very spectacular. The house is built into the side of the cliffs in the Appenzell Alps, in Alpstein. ❣️The easiest way to reach this place is to take the Ebenalp cable car up the mountain and then hike about 15 min. down to the house. It’s a short but very beautiful hike down. 🇨🇭Ein Ort, den man einmal im Leben gesehen haben muss: der Äscher-Wildkirchli 🏞️🧡 Diese Wanderung ist ein echtes Highlight im Alpstein, nicht nur wegen des berühmten Gasthauses, das spektakulär in die Felswand gebaut ist, sondern auch wegen des Weges dorthin. Die Route: Start ist in Wasserauen (Appenzell), wo du gut mit dem Zug oder Auto hinkommst. Von hier geht’s zuerst gemütlich, aber stetig bergauf zum Seealpsee ein traumhafter Ort, an dem man am liebsten länger verweilen möchte. Der türkisgrüne See mit Spiegelung der umliegenden Gipfel ist ein Foto-Stopp par excellence. Danach wird’s kurz steiler: Auf dem teils steinigen und felsigen Bergpfad steigst du in Serpentinen über den Chobel hinauf zum Äscher. Unterwegs gibt’s grandiose Tiefblicke zurück zum Seealpsee und ein echtes „Wow“ beim ersten Blick auf das Gasthaus, das wie angeklebt unter den Felswänden hängt. Schuhwerk: Bitte unbedingt wandertaugliche Schuhe mit gutem Profil tragen, besonders beim Aufstieg vom Seealpsee ist der Weg rutschig, wenn es nass ist. Turnschuhe sind hier keine gute Idee. Einkehr: Oben angekommen wartet das Gasthaus Äscher, wo du dir einen Kuchen oder ein kaltes Getränk verdient hast, mit wahrscheinlich einem der spektakulärsten Ausblicke der Schweiz. Tipp: Wer mag, kann danach noch durch die Wildkirchli-Höhlen spazieren und über den breiten Weg nach Ebenalp hinauf, von dort bringt dich die Seilbahn wieder runter nach Wasserauen. Fazit: Diese Tour ist ein Erlebnis für die Seele und ein Ort, den man mindestens einmal im Leben gesehen haben muss. Am besten bei klarer Sicht, denn dann ist der Äscher einfach nur magisch. 💬 𝗥𝗘́𝗦𝗨𝗠𝗘́ Auberge sur le flanc d’une falaise 💡𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗘𝗜𝗟𝗦 • Possibilité de dormir à la cabane (réservation bien en avance car très prisé) • Réservation non nécessaire pour accéder à l’auberge ou dîner (mais prévoir une marge pour l’affluence estivale) • Monte via le téléphérique Wasserauen–Ebenalp, puis compte 20–25 minutes de marche à travers sentiers et grottes • Chemin escarpé, portions étroites et escaliers : chaussures de randonnée indispensables, déconseillé aux poussettes ou personnes à mobilité réduite • Accès voiture : parking à la gare de Wasserauen • Accès transports publics : train jusqu’à la gare de Wasserauen • Itinéraire : Wasserauen > Seealpsee > cabane Äscher (distance: ~4.5km et 700m de D+) • Possibilité de redescendre à pied ou d’emprunter une télécabine qui se situe à Ebenalp (à 20min de marche de la cabane) et qui redescend jusqu’à Wasserauen • Bon niveau requis pour faire la randonnée depuis Wasserauen 💵 𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐗

👇TAP for the hike details 🥾 📍Ebenalp → Wildkirchli Caves → Aescher Guest House → Seealpsee 🇨🇭 Seealpsee is one of my favourite alpine lakes in Switzerland, the colours of the water and the mountain backdrop are the dreamiest combination! 🥹🩵🏞️ You can combine a visit here with an incredible mountain hike that includes the Wildkirchli Caves, the famous Aescher Guesthouse, and stunning views of the Alpstein mountain range! 👇All the hike details: 🗺️ Route: One-way from Ebenalp and finish at Wasserauen 🧭 Length: ~8km, around 4 hours but personally I’d allow a lot longer to just enjoy the lake! 📈 Elevation: 130m up, 840m down 🥾 Difficulty: one section is a challenging and steep mountain path going downhill, good hiking boots, experience and hiking sticks needed 🏔️ Trail Conditions: narrow dirt mountain trail with some stairs 🚠Getting there: take the train the Wasserauen and then the cable car up to Ebenalp to start the hike ‼️SAFETY NOTE: this is a dangerous trail that people have sadly had serious accidents on.
