African American culture also lives in Colombia.
From the rhythms of the Caribbean coast to ancestral traditions, music, dance, gastronomy, and community Afro-Colombian culture is a powerful part of the country’s identity.
Destinations like Cartagena, San Basilio de Palenque, Chocó, and the Pacific coast preserve stories of resistance, heritage, and vibrant cultural expression that continue to shape modern Colombia.

TRIP CLOSED
Experience Black Colombia in Medellin this Juneteenth weekend (June 18-22).
Comment “Culture” for the full itinerary ✊🏾🇨🇴. We’re halfway sold out!
If not now, when? Because Juneteenth in Medellin, with a group of people who came specifically to learn and celebrate and connect, is not something you can reschedule indefinitely. You CAN’T find this itinerary with any other company. This trip happens once a year.
And it will be my last Afro-Medellin trip ever!
Group Trip highlights:
🥁 the viral Black Joy Parade
🎨 an Afro-Comuna 13 Art and Street Food Tour
💃🏾 a traditional Afro-Colombian dance class with a live band
👩🏾🍳 private lunches & dinners cooked by Afro-Colombian chefs including someone who was on Masterchef Colombia
With everything going on in the world, there isn’t a better time to seriously invest in our diaspora & things that bring us joy✊🏾.
Let’s address some concerns:
👉🏾 ”Is Medellin safe, though?” Listen, I get it. But as someone who’s been out here, Medellín in 2026 is not what your parents remember from the news from the 80s. The city’s been completely transformed. We’ll be in Poblado, one of the safest and most walkable neighborhoods in the city, and every experience is run by local partners who know exactly where we’re going. As long as you aren’t on some passport bro ish, you’ll be totally fine.
👉🏾 “I want to come solo, but...”Good. Most of the inaugural group came solo. By the farewell dinner, they didn’t want to leave each other. This is an intimate group of 15 people with a shared reason for being there. You’ll have your own room and your own space, and you’ll also have a built-in community from day one without the awkward group project energy.
👉🏾 “The price is a little higher than expected...” Let’s be transparent: I structured this trip based on how I like to travel. That means EVERYONE gets their own room at a 5-star hotel. No awkward roommate assignments with strangers like other group trips do to keep costs down. Your comfort matters, and having your own space to decompress is worth it. Payment plans are available!

If I asked you to picture a Colombian person, you’d probably think Karol G, J Balvin, or Shakira.
But if you go to a city like Cartagena you’d realize many Colombians also look like me.
Colombia has one of the largest Afro-descended populations outside of Africa, but media and complexion privilege don’t always reflect that reality.
And right outside the city is San Basilio de Palenque, the first legally free Black town in the Americas, founded by formerly enslaved Africans.
Have you heard of Palenque?

📍Cartegena, Colombia
📆 December 10-15, 2026
3 reasons you need to visit Cartegena, Colombia 🇨🇴 this December with me @HibiscisTravelCo and @LuxeTribes
1. Cartagena isn’t just a vacation destination—it’s a powerful cultural mirror. As one of the most historically significant ports in the transatlantic slave trade, it is also home to resilience, resistance, and preserved African heritage.
Traveling with me transforms the trip from “tourism” into a guided cultural homecoming—where travelers can:
• Walk through stories, not just streets
• Understand Afro-Colombian identity
• Experience places like San Basilio de Palenque (the first free Black town in the Americas)
2. Curated, Safe, and Culturally-Aligned Experience
Let’s be real—traveling internationally can feel intimidating, especially when people don’t feel culturally seen or supported.
I’m not just offering a destination—I’m offering:
• A community-centered experience
• A space where Black travelers feel safe, understood, and celebrated
• Thoughtfully curated moments (music, food, history, vibes) that resonate deeply with the diaspora
3. A December Escape That Feels Like Joy, Not Just Luxury
My trip offers:
• Sun, beauty, and escape during a typically stressful season
• A chance to replace routine with rhythm (Afro-Caribbean music, dance, culture)
• A space to celebrate life, heritage, and connection with like-minded people
