STORY TIME about one of the proudest and thrilling moments of my entire life! 😭 A year ago (Dec 5, 2022), my friend @aj_sealy and I found out about a mystery project for Disney looking for an original song about connection/heart. Wildly enough, it was due THAT SAME DAY… so we hopped on zoom at 11pm & wrote a song called ‘Heartbeat Symphony’ running with ‘symphony’ theme about how we are all different melodies that play a part in the symphony of humanity. After making it through the first round, we found out it was for Disney World/EPCOT’s epic new fireworks show closing the park every night… til 2050?!?! WHAT?! Then, the incredible @sheleamusic came in, cut vocals on it and reworked the chorus with us! Sheléa: “maybe the chorus starts with…something like…. *improvs* “you are a parrrrt of me! I am a parrrrrrt of you!” AJ and I: 🤯🤯🤯 After a couple more rewrites, arrangements, studio sessions, and manifesting … Our song was put in the show!! 😭 Fast forward to EXACTLY 1 year later (Dec 5, 2023)… ✨Luminous: The Symphony of Us✨ premiered at EPCOT to a crowd of 30,000 people… and although AJ and I couldn’t make the premiere, we got to see it last night, and it was absolutely BREATHTAKING! I felt 5 years old again and cried a LOT. THANK YOU @stefdoesstuff, @triciaholloway, Steve Davison, and everyone over at Disney Imagineering for believing in us and guiding us!! Thank you, AJ, for being the easiest, most genius, alan menken-level, icon of a musician there is (AND for having just as bad a sleep schedule as me). Thank you Sheléa for truly bringing the song to the finish line! Also, shout out to The London Voices, The Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Anthony Parnther, Dave Pierce, Pinar Toprak, The Heavyweights, Dan Scott, @theotheredboyer , Katherine McPhee & everyone else who worked on the show! Special shout out to @heyitsmariojose for bringing AJ & I together, @kirstin for cutting the original demo vox for me in the middle of the night 😭, @itsjackiefoster & of course, massive shout out to my husband, @markhoying, and AJ’s wifey, @karasealy for being the most iconic cheerleaders ever happily listening to maybe 900 versions of the song 😭

27 years ago this morning I woke up very nervous and excited to don the blue apron and the legit side of my voice as Belle in “Beauty and the Beast”! 👸🏻🥀 Who was there in the audience and at the stage door of The Palace Theater ?!? 🖐🏽❤️🖐🏿❤️🖐🏻 This adventure meant so much that my one and only tattoo is of the BnB rose 🌹 Tony McClean and Stuart Oken @disneytheatricals_ 🎭 opened their hearts to what I would bring to this role and over two and a half decades later , with lasting friendships with/my Gastons @montedadof3 and @marckudisch and beloved memories it remains a sparkling gem 💎 in my theatrical crown 👑 (puns intended) !!! Thank you Linda Woolverton, Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, and my dear friend Tim Rice for this inspirational piece of art ! And to my Beast and Prince @thechuckwagner !!! CHEERS to my Lumiere 🕯️ Gary Beach 😇 who I had the honour of sharing the stage with in my first professional production “A Christmas Carol” where he played Fred and I played Tiny Tim’s sister Belinda at 11 years old. ALAN MENKEN: this interview is in my top 5 of all time. I was raised in Florida in the 90s, so to say I’m a “Disney kid” would be me severely underselling it. The animated Disney renaissance films inspired who I am and everything I create today. I was enamored by the worlds and music of beauty and the beast, the little mermaid, hercules, and so on. so when I was asked to cover the live-action little mermaid, I was so excited because I knew Alan Menken, who had composed the scores to my favorite films from childhood would be there! I was told I had 7 minutes to interview Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken together. I spent a week prepping paired questions for them both. when I arrived to the interview, I found out that Lin-Manuel Miranda wasn’t there because of the writer’s strike. I was so nervous because I hadn’t prepped questions for Alan SOLO. And he was a HERO. So I let my 7 year old self takeover, and it turned out to be the coolest 7 minutes I’ve lived through. the fact that Alan had a piano in the room gave me chills! this was just too cool. #disney #alanmenken @alanmenken
