🕊️ अनित्य| Impermanence

Siempre.

The Sand Mandala is a profound spiritual art form in Bhutan, embodying the core Buddhist teaching of Impermanence (Anitya).
Over days, monks meticulously construct a complex, geometric palace using millions of grains of colored sand. This sacred design represents the pure dwelling of a Buddha, radiating blessings and healing energy.
The crucial act is the Dissolution Ceremony. The masterpiece is swiftly swept away to teach non-attachment—the truth that all things are transient. The sand is then released into flowing water to share its blessings globally.
Notably, Bhutanese monks often rely on pure manual dexterity and simple funnels, often forgoing the vibrating metal Chak-pur tool used elsewhere, emphasizing mind-body control in the sacred practice. #bhutan #sandmandala #breathebhutan #authentictravel #authenticbhutan #immersivebhutan #immersivetravel
Day 2 of Understanding Philosophy through Art
Rang de Basanti X Buddhism X Stoicism
Follow: @nipunvsnoise
This one scene of actor Amir khan from the Bollywood movie Rang de basanti hides a wisdom that both Buddha and Stoics agreed on: Everything passes.
Friendships, families, emotions, memories.. sab kuch.
This is the philosophical idea of Impermanence (hindu idea of Anitya/Anicca). And when you take it deeper, it becomes Memento Mori.. the reminder that you too will pass. Once you accept that truth, you step closer to real wisdom.
🎬 From movies to life.. philosophy is everywhere. The question is: can you see it?

The flower blooms, then fades. Just like everything else.
In Buddhist philosophy, Anicca (Pali; Sanskrit: Anitya) means impermanence — the truth that all conditioned things are constantly changing. Nothing lasts forever. Not pleasure, not pain. Not youth, not sorrow. Not even the self as we think of it.
From the moment something arises — a thought, a feeling, a relationship, or even a flower — it begins to change. It grows, peaks, and eventually fades away. This isn't pessimism; it's observation. Reality is in constant flux.
According to the Buddha, much of our suffering (dukkha) comes from forgetting or resisting this truth. We cling to things as if they’re permanent — trying to hold onto beauty, success, people, or even our identities. But clinging to what's destined to change inevitably leads to suffering.
To see Anicca clearly is to move toward freedom. It doesn’t mean detachment in a cold way — it means learning to appreciate each moment without grasping. It means loving fully without expecting forever. It means watching the flower bloom with awe… and watching it wither without despair.
Because this too will pass — and that’s not sad. That’s what makes it precious.

In Vedanta philosophy, the persistence of suffering (often referred to as Dukkha) is explained not as a design flaw of the universe, but as an inherent characteristic of the material world and the mechanics of the mind.
In Vedanta, the world we experience is described as Anitya (impermanent). Suffering arises because we attempt to find permanent satisfaction in things that are fundamentally transient. The physical world (Jagath) functions on pairs of opposites: light and dark, pleasure and pain, birth and death. You cannot have one without the potential for the other.
While the world is experienced as real, it is "Mithya"—a dependent reality. Seeking absolute happiness in a relative world is like trying to find water in a mirage; the frustration is inevitable.
Vedanta posits that the root cause of suffering is Avidya (ignorance). This is not a lack of information, but a fundamental "misapprehension" of our own nature.
By identifying as a limited individual, we create a sense of separation. This separation breeds fear (of loss) and desire (for completion), which are the two primary engines of suffering.
For a Jivanmukta, suffering doesn't necessarily "disappear" from the world, but it loses its sting. It is like watching a tragic movie; you see the pain on screen, but because you know you are the spectator and not the character, you remain in peace.

10-step breakdown of Viveka (discrimination):
1. Nitya vs Anitya (Eternal vs Temporary)
Recognizing what is permanent (Atman, truth) and what is constantly changing (body, emotions, situations).
2. Satya vs Mithya (Truth vs Illusion)
Understanding that not everything we perceive is absolute truth—much of it is conditioned reality.
3. Atman vs Anatman (Self vs Not-Self)
Discriminating between your true Self (consciousness) and everything you identify with (body, mind, roles).
4. Sukha vs Dukha (Real Joy vs Temporary Pleasure)
Seeing that sensory pleasures are short-lived, while inner bliss is stable and independent.
5. Dharma vs Adharma (Right vs Wrong Action)
Choosing actions aligned with righteousness, even when it’s not the easiest path.
6. Ahankaar vs Swaroop (Ego vs True Nature)
Recognizing when actions arise from ego versus your pure, शांत and aware self.
7. Attachment vs Detachment (Raga vs Vairagya)
Understanding when you are clinging versus when you are flowing freely without dependency.
8. Reaction vs Response
Discriminating between impulsive reactions and conscious, aware responses.
9. Outer Noise vs Inner Silence
Learning to step back from external chaos and listen to the inner guidance (antaratma).
10. Maya vs Reality
Realizing the play of illusion (Maya) and not getting completely entangled in it.
🌿 Essence:
Viveka is not judgment—it is clarity.
It refines your perception so you stop living unconsciously and start living truthfully
