Tight Arse Tuesday! Ā  One simple way we save money in our home kitchens is to buy less! We’ve adopted a ā€˜make don’t buy’ approach which is good for the planet and your budget. We don’t mean turn yourself into a homesteader and can your own tuna (although we have tried!). We mean be resourceful, make one ingredient do two things, learn to make a few specialty staples and don't go running to the shops every time you run out of something. Ā  No need to go to the health food shop for sauerkraut, you can have good guts on a budget. Dried chickpeas are cheap as, so make your own hommus with our ā€˜no food processor, no worries’ easy tip. Or if you’re making a curry, but forgot the coconut milk, make your own with the other half packet of dried coconut you bought for the Anzac biscuits. Ā  You’ll find a gazillion helpful recipes, tips and ideas in our latest bookĀ The Food Saver's A-Z, so you too can be a tight arse in the kitchen. #thefoodsaversaz #foodsaver #foodwaste #foodwastehacks #foodwastetips #useitallcooking #cornersmith #tightarsetuesdays
Anzac biscuits for ANZAC DAY 2025. Lest we forget. 🌹 ANZAC BISCUITS (Makes 16 to 18) Ā  1 cup plain flour (150g, all-purpose flour) 1 cup rolled oats (100g) 1 cup desiccated coconut (80g) 3/4 cup (165g) white sugar, preferably caster / superfine 150g / 5oz unsalted butter 4 tbsp golden syrup (sub 1 tbsp light molasses OR treacle plus 3 tbsp honey) 1 tsp baking soda (bicarbonate soda) Ā  DIRECTIONS 1. Mix flour, oats, coconut and sugar. 2. Melt butter with golden syrup over medium heat. Once it starts bubbling, add the baking soda. Stir to dissolve - it will foam! 3. Pour into flour mixture, mix until combined. 4. Scoop up 1 tbsp of mixture, roll into ball then flatten into a thinnish patty (they don’t spread much). For standard size you buy in packets at the supermarket, use 2 tsp of mixture. 5. Place on paper lined trays 2.5cm/1ā€ apart. Bake 15 min at 180C/350F (160C fan) for crisp or until deep golden, or 12 min or until golden for chewy centres. 6. Cool 5 min on tray then transfer to cooling racks. They will be soft when warm but will crisp up when cooled. Crispy ones stay crispy for a week in an airtight container, after that they soften but still super tasty. Also can crisp up in oven – 5 min at same temp. #recipetineats #anzacbiscuits #Anzacday2025
Baking and learning about the importance of those who came before us. Their sacrifice. ā™„ļø If you want the recipe search ā€˜CWA Anzac biscuits’ in Google. #lestweforget
Ahead of Anzac Day tomorrow, Ambassador Turner and Mr Axl Rdiall, Development and Administration Officer, bake Anzac biscuits. During the First World War, people at home in Australia sent parcels of food to those serving on the front line, also known as ā€˜the Anzacs’, to supplement the soldiers’ plain diet of tinned ā€˜bully’ beef and hardtack (a plain cracker). Many care parcels included biscuits made from rolled oats, golden syrup and flour, which had high nutritional value and kept well while being transported overseas. These biscuits are now known as Anzac biscuits and are still popular in Australia today. Watch the video and follow the recipe to bake with Ambassador Turner and Mr Rdiall, and stay tuned later this week to learn more about Anzac Day! Ingredients 2 tablespoons butter or margarine 2 tablespoons golden syrup (we used Palauan Coconut Honey) 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda dissolved in 2 tablespoons boiling water 1 cup rolled oats 1 cup desiccated coconut 3/4 cup brown sugar 3/4 cup plain flour Method 1. Heat oven to 330°F. 2. Melt butter (or margarine) and syrup. 3. Add dissolved bicarbonate of soda and water. 4. Mix dry ingredients in a bowl, add the liquid mixture and stir. 5. Place small balls of the mixture (about 1 teaspoon) onto a greased tray. 6. Bake for 20 minutes or until lightly brown. 7. Lift biscuits onto a cake cooling rack and wait for them to cool.
Crisp and Chewy Anzac Biscuits! šŸ’• 🌹 Disclaimer: in the video I call them cookies, but they are in fact biscuits! Apologies, English is not my first language and sometimes these subtitles escape me. Let’s just focus on how divine these biscuits are! Ingredients • 1 cup rolled oats • 1 cup plain flour • 1 cup desiccated coconut • ¾ cup brown sugar • 125g butter • 2 tbsp golden syrup • ½ tsp baking soda • 2 tbsp boiling water and small pinch of salt Method 1. Preheat oven to 160°C (fan 140°C). Line a tray. 2. In a bowl, mix oats, flour, coconut, and sugar. 3. In a saucepan, melt butter + golden syrup. Add a small pinch of salt. 4. Dissolve baking soda in boiling water, then stir into the butter mix (it’ll foam). 5. Combine wet and dry ingredients. 6. Roll into balls, place on tray, and flatten slightly. 7. Bake for 10–12 minutes (this is key for chewiness). 8. Let them cool on the tray, they firm up as they set. #anzacday #anzacbiscuits #anzaccookies #lestweforget
