As faithful began to fill the pews for yesterday's bicentennial Mass at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis, prelates gathered in the building next door.
Archbishop Mitchell Rozanski, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke, Archbishop William Lori of Baltimore, and Archbishop Gabriele Caccia, the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, greeted each other before Mass.
The prelates were among those who gathered in the rectory, where they conversed and prepared for the Mass. Their discussion touched on the history of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, which celebrated its official 200th anniversary on July 18.

Australian Archbishop Anthony Fisher, who has led the Archdiocese of Sydney since 2014, is going viral for a humorous reflection on faith that starts like a dramatic conversion testimony and ends with an unexpected punchline.
In a clip that went viral on Instagram, Fisher tells an audience that he once lived a self-centered life focused entirely on comfort and getting what he wanted.
Archbishop Fisher’s joke went viral because it does more than simply get a laugh. By framing a baby’s needs in the language of a redemption story, he turns a familiar religious milestone into a playful reminder that every person begins life dependent on others.
For Catholics, baptism is the sacrament that marks entry into the Church. Infant baptism is a long-standing practice in Catholicism, with parents and godparents pledging to help raise the child in the faith. Fisher’s joke draws on that tradition while making the moment understandable even to viewers who may not be familiar with Catholic teaching.

Christians welcomed Archbishop Luigi Roberto Cona, the new Apostolic Nuncio to Syria and the Holy See’s ambassador, as he began his mission at a crucial moment for the country. During his visit to several communities in Idlib, the Syrian flag and the Vatican flag were raised, marking a symbolic moment for local Christians who have faced many difficulties in practicing their faith in Idlib. The Papal Ambassador, together with the Syrian Deputy Minister of Interior, released a dove of peace into the sky over Christian areas he visited, including Knaye, Al-Jadida, Al-Yaqoubiya, and Al-Ghassaniyah.
Upon arriving in Syria, he expressed his hope that Christians would continue to serve as a bridge of dialogue, reconciliation, and peace after years of conflict. During his first official visits, he met with Church leaders and Syrian officials, reaffirming the Holy See’s commitment to supporting the Christian presence in the region and encouraging coexistence among all Syrians. His arrival was marked not only by diplomatic meetings but also by a warm and heartfelt welcome from local communities, who gathered in the streets to greet the Pope’s representative with joy and hope for the future. Many Christians expressed hope that his visit could bring renewed support and positive change for the Christian community in the region.

The Venerable Archbishop Fulton John Sheen recounted an anecdotal experience he had with Saint Teresa of Calcutta which inspired him deeply.
It was not simply her works of charity. It was the love of Jesus Christ manifested through them.
Reflecting on Mother Teresa’s life, Archbishop Sheen spoke of a woman who saw Christ in the “distressing disguise of the poor.”
Having encountered Our Lord in prayer and in the Blessed Sacrament, she recognised Him again in those whom the world had forgotten.
For Archbishop Sheen, this was the mark of true holiness: a love of God that overflows into love of neighbour.
“The Eucharist and the poor are inseparable,” she said. In order to carry out the arduous work of caring for the poorest in often miserable circumstances, she knew she needed the Eucharistic Jesus as her “One Thing Necessary.”
God Love You!
