FLAT FEET? START WITH YOUR FEET 🦶💪
Pain in knee, hip, or back?
The problem often starts at the arch.
Flat feet = reduced medial arch
Foot rolls inward (overpronation)
Load travels upward through the body
But here’s the good news 👇
Flat feet can be managed with the right plan.
--- AS A PHYSIOTHERAPIST, THIS IS THE TREATMENT APPROACH
STEP 1: SUPPORT THE ARCH (IMMEDIATE)
Your foot needs help while strength builds.
✔ Arch-support footwear
✔ Orthotics if pain or severe collapse
✔ Avoid worn-out, flat, or unsupportive shoes
Support is a tool — not the cure.
---
STEP 2: STRENGTHEN THE ARCH (THE REAL FIX)
Short Foot Exercise (Arch Doming)
Lift the arch without curling toes
Activates intrinsic foot muscles
Heel Raises
Strengthens calves + arch control
Progress from double leg to single leg
Towel Scrunches / Toe Curls
Improves foot muscle endurance
Tibialis Posterior Strengthening
Key muscle that supports the arch
Single-Leg Balance
Trains arch control during real movement
---
STEP 3: PROGRESSION MATTERS
Start slow
Focus on quality
Train 4–6 days/week
Expect changes in weeks, not days
Consistency beats intensity.
---
WHAT TO EXPECT
Flexible flat feet respond best
Pain reduces with regular training
Arch control improves over time
Orthotics may still be needed for high load activities
---
COMMON MISTAKE ❌
Only stretching the foot
Flat feet need strength, not just flexibility
---
Your arch is your foundation.
Support it early.
Strengthen it consistently.

🔹 10 Foot Strengthening & Stabilization Exercises
In this session, I perform 10 targeted foot exercises designed to improve stability, enhance neuromuscular control, and support long-term joint health.
These exercises help with prevention and management of conditions such as:
✔️ Plantar fasciitis
✔️ Trigger toe
✔️ Bunion (hallux valgus)
✔️ Flat feet (pes planus)
✔️ Ankle instability
✔️ General lower-limb joint dysfunction
💪 The goal is to strengthen the intrinsic foot muscles, improve arch support, enhance proprioception, and reduce excessive load on the knees, hips, and lower back.
🔸 Protocol
⏱ Perform each exercise for 30–45 seconds
🔁 Complete 2–3 sets
📅 Train 2–3 times per week
You can integrate this routine:
🏋️ Between gym sessions as active recovery
🏠 As a light home-based warm-up
⚡ Before lower-body workouts to activate stabilizers
Consistent practice improves foot mechanics, joint alignment, and overall lower-extremity resilience.

If you’ve been aggressively rolling your foot with minimal relief, it may be time to rethink the strategy.
Plantar fasciitis is typically a load-related condition rather than a purely “tight tissue” problem. It commonly presents as heel pain, especially with the first steps in the morning, and is associated with repetitive loading, altered foot mechanics, and capacity deficits within the plantar fascia and surrounding musculature.
When the foot and lower-limb muscles lack sufficient strength or endurance, the fascia is exposed to higher mechanical stress.
While rolling may temporarily modulate symptoms via neural mechanisms, it does not address the underlying load tolerance of the fascia.
More effective rehabilitation priorities typically target tissue capacity, force attenuation, and gait mechanics:
1. Intrinsic foot strength – Improving intrinsic strength enhances active arch support, reduces excessive strain on passive structures.
2. First MTP (big toe) and ankle mobility – Adequate dorsiflexion of the first MTP joint is critical for normal windlass mechanism function. Restricted mobility at the big toe and the ankle itself can impair force transfer, alter push-off mechanics, and increase compensatory loading through the plantar fascia.
3. Calf strength – The plantarflexors play a central role in energy storage, shock absorption, and forward propulsion.
4. Ankle and proximal stability – Foot loading is heavily influenced by upstream mechanics. Deficits in ankle control, hip stability, or frontal-plane trunk mechanics can contribute to excessive mobility, altered ground reaction forces, and inefficient load management.

Here are 4 powerful exercises for arch strength, balance, and toe activation — all done using just yoga blocks and those adorable toe socks:
✅ What This Set Helps Fix:
1. Flat Feet / Collapsed Arches
→ By spreading and lifting the toes on a raised surface, we activate the intrinsic foot muscles that build and support the arches from the inside out.
2. Overpronation (Ankles Rolling In)
→ Balancing on the edge of the block teaches the foot to distribute weight properly and avoid collapsing inward — great for kids who pronate or have valgus alignment.
3. Toe Gripping / Weak Toe Control
→ Toe sock crawls help train each toe to move independently, improving proprioception, balance, and walking patterns.
4. Tight Calves and Achilles
→ The tiptoe hold and stretch lengthen the posterior chain, which is essential for preventing toe walking and improving ankle mobility.
5. Poor Balance / Ankle Instability
→ Heel-to-toe rocking and lateral block work challenge balance and help build the ankle stabilizers that keep kids steady during play and movement.
✅ What This Set Helps Fix:
🎉 Bonus: Do it with your kids and match your socks. Instant motivation and giggles guaranteed!

As an orthopedic surgeon, I see daily knee, foot, and back problems linked to poor footwear choices. Stilettos, narrow toe boxes, and flat ballet shoes increase joint stress and alter walking mechanics.
Supportive running shoes, low wedges (1–2 cm), and structured sandals protect your arches and improve alignment. 👟
Before buying, check arch support, heel stability, and toe space. Your feet carry you all day choose wisely.

The paper bag test is your dynamic (walking) footprint. Number 1 is a high arch. This foot needs a shoe with a “curved last” which allows mobility. The neutral arch, number 2 would do well with a “semi-curved last” which allows some mobility but also gently stabilizes. The flat feet or overpronator number 3 needs a “straight last” which offers stability.
.
.
The “last” is the form used during construction of the shoe. Flip the shoe upside down and follow the plumb line to see the shape of the last from the bottom.

Trying to find sandals with bunions is honestly a nightmare.
Straps digging in.
Bunions spilling out the sides.
Constant adjusting.
And that low-level embarrassment every time you look down at your feet (even though bunions are nothing to be ashamed of).
You end up choosing between pain… or hiding.
Until you find sandals that are actually designed for you.
That’s what makes Calla different.
Soft, carefully positioned straps that don’t cut in or expose.
A wide toe box that gives your feet space.
Built-in arch support for all-day comfort.
Materials that move with you, not against you.
No squeezing. No spilling. No second-guessing.
Just sandals that feel as good as they look 🤍
“₹15,000 for running shoes? I get it, feels like a lot. 💸
But let’s do the math:
Good shoes = 600km+ lifespan
That’s 6 months of injury-free running
= ₹2,500/month for your foot health
= Less than your monthly zomato budget🌯
Here’s what premium brands give you:
✅ Medical-grade arch support
✅ Injury prevention tech (not just foam!)
✅ 2x durability vs budget shoes
✅ Podiatrist-approved biomechanics
